Hi Chris

Please don’t despair. I had my AVR op in November last year and I am also struggling with breathlessness. I find it much worse when I’m outside in the cold and several other people have said the same. I mentioned it at my check up in January and my surgeon wasn’t at all concerned and said it will improve over time.

I haven’t had any cardio rehab, and didn’t get any when I had my first AVR. As I am now back at work full time I thought no I’ll get plenty of exercise.

I can speak from previous experience that you will get through this, so onwards and upwards.

Hi Chris,

I agree with Wendy, I had mitral valve replacement surgery in November and some days I feel that I am worse off than before but then I look at the progress I have made since the op. I too find the cold affects me and had a wobbly start to cardio rehab, I have now tailored the exercise to suit me and walk miles around the house when it is too cold to venture out. Don’t despair you will get there, spring is around the corner and hopefully warmer, brighter days in which to build up your walking.

You have lots of helpful, fellow heart warriors on this forum to turn to as well. Good luck.

Dory x💕

Cold weather definitely has an impact on symptoms of any heart condition and it has been a long and cold winter this year. Hopefully we'll all start finding things easier once spring sets in. All the best x

I'm a north-east girl originally and would take their weather over Glasgow's any day!

I never needed to make use of the medical services up north, I've been in Glasgow since I was 18. I lived just outside Huntly until I was 8 and then moved to Elgin. I think I've pretty much lost my north-east accent, though not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing! :)

Sorry to still be off topic, When my rehab sessions at the ARI were coming to an end the Physio said you can continue to Phase IV with GCRA they run classes out in the Shires as far as Huntly and Elgin. The guy sat next to me just said " Not going out there that's where the Hobbits live in the Shires" brought the house down laughing.

Which wasn't good for the chest 12 weeks after CABG
