Hi did anyone else see the programme last night 24hrs in A & E ??

The Cardiology guy was saying to the patient you need to get from 7.5 mg to 10mg it is Proven Beta Blockers prolong life and he specifically referred to Bisoprolol.

Bisopronol is a good drug. And it’s definitely effective. But I’m wondering if the newer, more modern beta blockers are even more effective. Bearing in mind I think Moses was the first person to be prescribed bisopronol.

I wonder who prescribed Bisoprolol for Moses !!

Is this why some Cardiologists think they are God !!!

in reply toPrada47

I think most cardiologists would like us common folk to believe that in the beginning God created heaven and earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And to fill the void God created ‘Cardiologists’ to bring light and hope to the people. Strange though neurologists who are, in my mind top of the intellectual food chain are very down to earth and approachable, although a little geeky, but in a good ‘I’m gonna help you way’

Cardiologist wants to increase kevins as he's only on 1.25 but his low HR is a problem at the moment

Hi Leslie

The patient last night had a n ICD which had shocked him, so that's why they had increased his beta blocker. I have been up to 10mg and then reduced back to 7.5 as 10mg was taking my pulse to low 30 ish.

I may ask my Heart Nurse next Thursday should I increase to 8.5 mg as a starter, but I am hoping Entresto will go to maximum first.

110/66 with a HR of 65 this morning. Heart Nurse likes me to take a weeks reading before I go to see her !!

That figures Frank. Kevins on it because he'd had 40+ self terminating vt's hopefully preventing his ICD from kicking in. Kevin is having an echo today with a view to putting him on Entresto. BP is OK now low 100's over low 70's but HR is consistently around 48 to low 50's which cardiologist is concerned about, so they may adjust his ICD to start pacing him. Would be interested in knowing what your urse says, also good to know your very low HR is now normal.

Yes I only take 2.5 but did u notice that the man is waiting for a heart transplant so how could it be improving

Hi Yasy

He was waiting for a transplant because he had previously been stabbed through his heart. I suppose the ICD and Beta Blockers just kept him ticking over to see how he progressed, supposition I know !!

The goal seems to be 10mg but anything above 2.5mg for me turned me into the walking dead as my heart rate fell so much!!!

When posting this thread I wasn't intimating, he said everyone should be on 10mg it just depends on how you tolerate Bisoprolol.

1,25mg maybe perfect for some people, but I think I am correct in saying optimum if you can tolerate it is 10mg.

Cardio & EP reduced mine to 1.25 & are now increasing dosage again. It sure as hell does not make you feel good! My resting hr went as low as 29 bpm at night so increasing the dose is probably going to make me feel tired again and make my PM work more!!!

Hi Stumpy

Out of interest what dose were you on prior to the reduction down to 1.25 mg ? A drop from 10mg to 7,5mg increased my Heart Rate from 33 BPM to an Average of 65? Certainly effective stuff lol

I was on 2.5 & really do not tolerate it well, it was reduced to 1.25 now they've insisted on trying to get it up again to try & eliminate ventricular ectopics! Catch 22 :-)

I'm going through the same issues, prescribed 2.5 in the morning which is to much so now taking 1.25 at night so effects are not as bad but they want me to try 2.5 at night. I have a pacemaker to prevent any bradycardia caused by the Bisoprolol but it doesn't stop the horrible symptoms of ectopics 😕

Slightly off topic but I had a High Burden of Ventricular Ectopic Beats (Cardiologist Description ) Since being on the mid dose of Entresto they have virtually gone just an occasional one which I can feel. I do still take 7.5 mg Bisoprolol so it's either one or the other sorting out the Ectopic Beats !!

Heavens 7.5 Bisop I would be on the floor ! Thanks for the Entresto info, I'll make a note.

I was previously down as allergic to Bisop but they really want me to take it so I'm just experimenting with doses and timings, if I'm still having trouble in a week or so I'll go back and talk different meds, just so disappointed that my pm hasn't stopped the ectopic pauses which make me feel so wobbly, probably need the settings tweaked.

Hi Bantam

I take my Bisoprolol 7.5mg with breakfast along with Aspirin 75mg Omeprazole 20 mg, and Pravastatin 10 mg. Mid morning I take Entresto 49/51 mg and Eplerenone 25mg

At Night time I take the second Entresto 49/51mg.

Since reducing Bisoprolol from 10mgto 7.5mg Pauses have reduced the longest pause is for 3 seconds. Cardiologist believes a PM is not currently required as my timing is reasonable. Only problem with timing is the QRS gap which is seen on an ECG is widening.

I seem to be better taking the Bisoprolol at night, not quite as dozy today, will try to up the dose in a few days 🤞

Meds and me aren't a great combination as I have trouble metabolising them so I'm hoping to avoid adding any extras but having gone through the traumatic pacemaker op I need to make it worth it and get this sorted, thanks for the info.
