Hi just had my results back from my 24 hour blood pressure monitor my average was 138/96 for day time and night time, during the day my highest first number was 179 and my second number was 111 during the day I had second number readings of 15 times over the 100 mark in a row. During the day my first figure was between 145 and 179 these figures seam a bit high, I am on Bendroflumethiazine and amlodipine tablets for blood pressure and doctor says pain of action is to keep me on current medicine, in 2016 I had unstable angina attack and two stents fitted

Hi Gaz22, I don't know those particular medications, but I agree with you, those BP readings do seem too high, given you're on medication to reduce BP. I would definitely talk to dr again and express your concerns. I thought that the top number wasn't meant to be over 140.

I would also be concerned about the consistently elevated BP readings you seem to have and would be wanting to discuss this further with my GP to explore if a medication change is necessary. However personal lifestyle management measures such as diet and exercise and certainly maintaining a modest BMI can also help reduce BP although for some of us they only form part of the solution in reducing BP, with medication providing the balance to maintain a BP which reduces heart health risk.

Those do seem quite high. GPs usually ask for 3 resting BP readings a day for a week then work out the average. Could you do that for a week and work it out yourself then you could go back armed with the information. They don't consider readings during exercise- well mine doesn't. He insists I sit quietly for 10 minutes before taking each reading.

I’m not a medic but some of those readings seems high. Naturally because you take your meds at night your blood pressure goes down. As you rise in the morning it then shoots up and throughout the day. It seems like it’s during the day you need it to lower, than the night. It would be interesting to see if you took your meds in the morning how high your blood pressure would be when you’re sleeping, or if you took one in the morning and the other at night. I take mine in the morning and always have done because that’s when my pressure is more likely to go up. Because of stresses during the day. But that’s just me.

Please do let me know if it works. I’m sorry to hear how inconsiderate your work place is. I’m fortunate I was able to retire early and get my work pension. They keep raising the retirement age. Most of us started working at 16 and some even earlier. We’re exhausted, especially with an ongoing illness.

It’s terrible they won’t even allow you to reduce your hours and that can impact your health. Sometimes I think some of these firms want people to drop so they don’t have to pay out pensions. You should contact age concern because I know there are rules regarding this if you’re not well. But I don’t want you to have problems at work because you’re fighting with them to do a few days less. Things sometimes can turn nasty for no reason which can give you more stress.

Your reply is very true, A about 3 months ago they brought in new face masks which use two filters one each side and they said I have to have a face fitting test where you have on the mask and then they put a hood over your head and spray a chemical in to see if you can smell it not a present experience, I have asthma and COPD , for 21 years doing my job I have worn a FFFP3 mask same as you wear in hospital, I went to the doctor to say I was having trouble breathing with it on, Doctor said I should not be wearing the new mask because I have asthma COPD and have collanary artery disease 2 stents fitted, Doctor wrote me a letter saying this gave it to work, They said I cannot do some parts of my job now because they are using the new mask and not going back to the old mask which doctor said I could still use, Because they are moving forward! as a firm not back, Only 2 more years counting the days down till I retire, Thanks again for your reply
