Annoyed. Had travel insurance to start next week. overdid it at the gym and had a tiny blockage in a small vein. So small the consultant couldn't even see it, even on an MRI. It was still classed as a heart attack so my insurer STAYSURE has cancelled my policy, even though the hospital has said that it is very unlikely it would happen again and he would be happy for the insurer to contact him, however insurer wouldn't. STAYSURE are even saying they may make a charge, even though the cover hadn't started and they cancelled it before starting. I am due to go to Jamaica in October and am having problems finding cover.

Slightly odd as StaySure are usually the company I would recommend to people with heart conditions. I imagine a HA was diagnosed via Troponin levels or ECG. The problem is you are travelling very soon post a cardiac event. Many insurers like to see a period free of any issue for at least six weeks and preferably three months. Ring StaySure and see if this is the case.
Despite the fancy ads on tv staysure was very expensive when I asked for a quote and there was some reluctance to insure me. As your prob was so recent might be the reason they have refused cover.
In the end I found good cover with saga tho you have to be over 50, still not cheap but was going on a cruise which included Russia
Hope you find something

Hi, I've been told to start cover from the day I book my holiday, then your covered for every eventuality. That still doesn't work all the time as I've been stung before with the small print. Good luck with everything. Sheena
Hi, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, also that they are trying to make a charge for the cancellation of your policy through no fault of your own.
The advice already given about arranging cover to start from the day you book your trip is sound advice - but that's only useful for next time
I have found reasonably priced insurance from insureandgo.com, which covers me for all my declared health conditions including a congenital heart condition, artificial heart valve, ventricular tachycardia and implanted ICD. So they might be worth a try.
I've also been insured by direct-travel.co.uk in the past (with fewer conditions to cover though)
I have a Staysure policy but last year when I had a frozen shoulder they wanted to exclude it as I had seen a consultant even though they I had already declared it to them. I wonder if they are becoming more mainstream .....
