Just a prompt, I’ve searched for Travel insurance (as I have a stent) with vitals good. I checked many reviews on trustpilot spent hours but only to find out most don’t deliver and majority reviews are from people buying the policy but not having to use it. I tried LV but too expensive (I wanted to go with an insurer who underwrites in-house) I managed to get a quote with my conditions (2 episodes of heart attack plus taking statins, ramapril with no ongoing investigations etc and partner with asthma) for a two week policy with Aviva (online) for about £80 with better benefits).
I hope this helps, I was worried about should I need assistance who is likely to help without going through different companies, remember staysure and similar just sell policies they don’t underwrite or manage any aspect of providing assistance, this is the part to be considering when taking out a policy and make sure you take out the policy well in advance just to cover your trip for cancellations or other disruptions at home.
good luck

Yes, definitely a good idea to shop around to compare not only price, but the cover that is offered and make sure it meets your needs. I’ve used Staysure in the past and had to cancel due to having a heart attack. They paid out promptly once claim was submitted. The longest wait I had was for Gp to complete the medical form.
Thanks, Nice to hear that … I went on trustpilot and similar sites and checked the reviews by people who’ve actually made a claim on their policies and it wasn’t pleasant experience for them, going direct with the insurer negates the back and forth between brokerages etc it’s a no brainer imo… it’s true in many cases you get what you pay for, better to go direct with insurer and ask plenty of questions (should the unthinkable happen) not just to the point of purchase, the fun starts thereafter should the need arise, hopefully not! Safe travels to all…
it’s quite hard to find an insurer who will accept us oldies, leave alone those with medical issues! I get mine through my bank account with Natiinwide, costs £13 per month plus about five or six hundred pounds for worldwide annual cover, and that’s the cheapest going (for us).
I agree, it is frustrating if left to the last minute. I was with Barclays (I think Aviva product) didn’t insure me but a year later I had no issues getting the policy directly from them, it is costly comparatively but in our situation it’s a must to safeguard against issues.
the cost reflects the risk that you bring to the company. Steep, but if I want an annual worldwide travel insurance then that’s what I have to pay. As I said, the one I have is much less then £1500. About £700 for the two of us, last year, which included £75 for my granddaughter being added on.
not bad for people utilising it frequently. Have you ever needed assistance whilst abroad? If so, ease of access? Rate of Response and how timely was their ability in liaising with third party providers abroad ? Outcome & Settlements? Thanks
I got some quotes recently and Aviva were by far and away the cheapest at around £500 for an annual policy against others of £1500 to £5000 for the same cover.
That was for two of us, I’m the only one with issues, I’ve had 2 x PCI, CABG and AVR.
