Firstly I apologise about posting another travel insurance query, but hoping that someone has managed to solve this one!
My husband has a diagnosis of aortic stenosis and has always been covered with Staysure. Part of his ongoing care are follow up echocardiograms and angiograms ……but Staysure are not prepared to cover if awaiting tests, even tho the initial diagnosis has been made.
Has anyone found a company that takes on board those ongoing tests post diagnosis?
Thank you x

I obtain my travel insurance via a packaged bank account, as for me and my husband it’s considerably cheaper. I tested this out recently by following Moneysavingexpert website’s description of how to get a quote. I noticed that many insurers use the same underwriters - I looked back just now to see how I ascertained that fact but it means I putting all the data again, so I’m not doing that!
I saw that there was a vast difference in price between each other, done this way.
My suggestion to you is to go via Moneysavingexpert or MoneyHelper UK. See if you can spot the ones that use the same underwriter, and find a different one.
Another way is to answer the question differently . If you reply to me here or via a private message with the exact question and your answer I will try to help.
I used to be a life assurance underwriter. It’s not the same as travel obviously, but I have a different way of looking at this.
This is what I discovered . Most of these companies use exactly the same wording on their health assessment forms, but their quotes can be way different.
I use all clear , although I’ve been diagnosed and received treatment ( pacemaker) , I also have another heart condition that can deteriorate. So I have been having a yearly echocardiogram to keep a check on things. I explained this to them and was still offered insurance. Good luck.
All clear covered me when paying too much wouldn't. H.A and two stents fitted as well as a loop device. Ring to discuss to be sure you have answered correctly. Good luck
I am also getting very frustrated trying to get travel insurance too. I spoke to a broker who told me that most companies will not cover me whilst waiting for an angiogram to confirm or not MVA and All Clear gave me quotes but they excluded anything to do with the heart issue, so does that include Hypertension and diabetes which I've had for years. It's so frustrating.
Indeed! It feels like you are going round in circles…….you have a health condition which they will cover, but then won’t cover you when you need to the follow up investigation to monitor the condition!!!
It's annoying as I went on holiday in October to Glasgow, I know how much I can do before I need to rest and feel good most of the time. My son wants to take me to Europe for a trip for my 70th birthday so its so annoying this issue.
I am insured with Insurewith. Different approach when you answer the questions .You put your medication in and then answer questions .i had to phone them as i was unsure of one thing and they were very helpful.
Good luck.i spent ages looking! In my case it was a newly diagnosed eye problem.Avanti wanted an extra £150 whereas this company charged no extra as it was diagnosed and will not get worse.
Hi I use them as well and I find it so much easier to put in my meds and pick from the drop down as I have had a transplant I have an echo and MRI every year as part of my ongoing care they are fine about it. Char
There was one company I found that will cover you if you have a problem that is awaiting tests but I’m sorry I can’t remember who it was. They cover all you have told than about and accepted but won’t cover the outstanding problem . Fortunately my husband’s problem was not serious. He is aged 96 with kidney damage and osteoporosis and “Paying Too Much “ have been excellent and on cruises also. Far cheaper than so many of the others
hi there, my reply isn’t going to encourage you. My partner has been unable to obtain travel insurance from even companies that advertise themselves as being the ones to go to if you have medical problems. He has an implantable loop recorder and has had it for over 12 months. It was put in because he has very occasional feeling faint episodes, which he has had all of his life. However he is now 73 so I guess that is why he is having it investigated. Since having the loop recorder he has not had any feeling faint episodes. No insurance will insure him for travel because he has ‘no diagnosis’. ! The fact that he may not have anything wrong with him seems to be irrelevant. Sorry to be disheartening. My partner now wants this loop recorder removed but can’t seem to get a reply from cardiology!
So sorry about this. It’s so unkind that you have this restriction . I had very questionable migraines but not all the time even though I couldn’t see sometimes however they were just considered migraines and that was ok together with the fact I’ve had a bypass. I must say the All Clear advert on tv annoys me as they make it sound as if all conditions are accepted. Good luck and I hope you can get to enjoy travelling again
many insurers distinguish between regular monitoring (which they will cover) and further investigation (which they won’t) as they cannot price the risk without a settled diagnosis. I was covered on and off by saga for several years with a diagnosis of biscuspid, ectopics , leaky valve and dilated aortic root. This is monitored by echos, ECGs and less regular MRIs . This could all be treated as regular monitoring and. I could get cover at a cost.. every time however there were developments eg need for ablation it messed up the cover . I had to disclose. Sometimes they would reprice (higher) and sometimes suspended when I was referred for surgery. I would use an insurer where you talk to them on the phone. I used Saga and was not pleased when they withdrew the cover 2 days before my holiday but Saga did pay out. Crucial you disclose everything openly - easier to do by phone which are always recorded. Ps I wonder if the problem with the cover is the angiograms .many hearties on the site will have regular ECGs, and echos and MRIs
I have travel insurance with All Clear, you just have to fill in an online questionnaire and you will a quote. I am sure they also have a phone line if you want to speak to someone.
I’ve just got insurance with InsureandGo they were very helpful on the phone and I have heart problems and my husband has cancer. It was expensive but at least they would give us cover which other companies wouldn’t. Hope you get sorted
We use All Clear and I have to have 6 monthly tests for a diagnosed condition. They ask if you are having tests for an undiagnosed condition which I answer as no. Just to cover myself I inform them every time I visit a GP and also after my tests for my diagnosed condition. They are excellent.
Last summer, a couple of months prior to an overseas trip, I was awaiting tests, and while most companies refused insurance outright, I did receive a quote for over £5,000, which was beyond my resources. (Sorry, can't remember the company's name.) I postponed the trip until the tests proved negative, and then got a quote for around £1,500 via my car insurance company - still a fortune, but just manageable. Shockingly, only 7 years earlier I'd done the same trip, and the insurance was under £400; the only factor which changed in that time was having reached the age of 80, which apparently is a significant watershed for insurance companies.
Thank you everyone for your very helpful replies and suggestions.
My husband spent the morning on the phone and found two companies that would insure him whilst he was waiting for a ‘ monitoring angiogram’
They were the Co op at £197 and All Clear at £255 for a 5 day trip to France. He has decided to postpone his Feb trip until the angiogram and results are completed, as this trip was not urgent.
Despite spending the whole morning on the phone it has been a useful and productive exercise and I hope that his research may help others with the same dilemma.
Thanks for this. After trying several companies who all refused to cover me despite claims to cover medical issues I found Saga were willing to cover me and seemed knowledgeabl. However, the cost was £450 for a 12 day trip to India so I may try the 2 you mentioned to see if they are cheaper.
I had similar issues with Staysure. A heart monitor will be repeated again for me during the summer after ectopic heartbeats were diagnosed in December following a Covid infection. Staysure wouldn't include me for cover on our annual policy as I will be getting a further heart monitor and will only cover my two other medical issues for only one further trip. I feel I might not be able to continue with travel insurance with them if I'm going to be regularly monitored. A Cardiologist has said I can travel and exercise. I managed to get 'Waiting List cover' for a single trip policy for a trip with 'Good to go Insurance'. It covers me for both cancellation and the duration of the trip.Hope this helps. Good luck!
