Hi new here, 3 weeks ago had abnormal ecg at doctors which show widespread depression no chest pain ect gp panicked gave me aspirin and sent me to a&e after X-ray and bloods nothing was confirmed, it said on my notes likely ischaemic, hospital consultant was happy with sending me home and did say he is thinking that the first ecg was misleading has this happend to anyone before? I’m 30 years old worried and do suffer with severe health anxiety which causes physical symptoms.

Hello and welcome to the forum! All my ECGs have been normal bar one. The doctor was dubious and had it repeated. It was normal and his view was the nurse had connected two of the twelve leads incorrectly! I would not worry if I were you.

Thanks for reply I did have an ecg 2 weeks before that and it was normal they repeated ecg which was a lot better but border line abnormal which they said could be normal for me I have been referred to cardiologist by my own gp as my dad had ischaemic heart desease which we did not no about he did have life shortening illness also, so to be on safe side I’ve been referred but they was happy to send me home as all test didn’t match up with ecg still worried tho 😳

The might be talking in terms of age health life style related vascular issues

As used term ischaemic as am not 100% but that’s un spacific so guess might be like I said ageing life style

I have been referred to cardiology due to the fact of my family history I just worry so much as I am only young and have 2 young girls 😓 is it possible for an ecg to show neally heart attack and it be wrong?

I was very nervous when they was doing ecg at gp like I’ve said I have had severe health anxiety for like 2 years now and it’s come to a point where I am getting physical symptoms I am on tablets which started a week ago, I had a normal ecg 2 weeks before abnormal one, so are you ok and have they come to any conclusion as to why you had bad ecgs?

Hi Lkam,

My ECGs often show changes such as ST depressions and T wave inversions.

During my angiogram I had ST elevations. It shows a lack of blood supply (ischaemia ) to my heart

No permanent damage so far has taken place so I have not had a heart attack.

My GP once sent me off to hospital in the back of the ambulance after seeing one of my ECG's. I was diagnosed eventually with vasospastic angina .

I always feel pain with my ECG changes. They are temporary. I even have normal ECGs too!

I have had hundreds of ECGs and I have learned the following. Any ECG is only as good as the person applying the leads, the equipment used and the interpretation of the results by a skilled clinician.

Sometimes an experienced Cardiac nurse on CCU is better at this task than some doctors.

It is good to hear that you have been referred to a Cardiologist. However waiting to get the answer can be very stressful.

Perhaps go and speak to your GP to discuss some strategies to help you with your understandable feelings as you are in 'limbo' waiting.

I hope feel more at ease soon.

Are you being treated for anxiety?

I’ve been recently put on propranolol

It's good they are being proactive and sending you to cardiology based on family history.

The propranolol will help your anxiety hopefully.

If you have any doubts or changes in your symptoms while waiting you should not hesitate to call.

If you want more info on the ekg call and ask. Say you are concerned and anxious and just want someone to explain it to you again
