Abnormal ECG

Hi, I’m new here and trying to ease my health anxiety somewhat.

My husband had a heart health check in work 2 weeks ago which involved a 12 lead ECG.

His blood pressure was high and when the report returned it came back with Sinus Rhythm Non Specific Intraventricular Conduction Deficit with Repolarisation.

He is fit and healthy and trains football twice a week. Super active, eats very well and general looks afree himself. He’s 30 and He always had a low heart rate below 50 bpm but as I said, was always ridiculously fit (Football and Hurling Training) and even went as far as a 9 week intensive MMA course every morning 5 days a week. He has no symptoms of high blood pressure and has never experienced as much as a head rush, dizziness or any chest tightening ever. Nor has his training ever been impeded by symptoms no matter how hard the training session.

Only thing is, We have 2 kids under 4.5 years and very rarely get over 6 hours sleep and even at that it’s very interrupted. The evening before his ECG he had a hard 2 hour football session, went to bed late and had terrible sleep, didn’t drink as much water as he should have, woke up the next morning, went to the gym for 7am and then had a super stressful day in work with a cup of coffee a few hours before the ECG. So I’m wondering with all that in mind, could that have caused a false positive?

Im beside myself with worry and he did ring the GP to get a further check on this this coming Friday. I’m really hoping it was just a terrible day to do an ECG and the second one will come back clear.

Hello :-)

Please try not to worry even though I know it is easier said than done but you can be really fit and still have high BP and with high BP you do not really get any symptoms you tend to get more symptoms if you have low BP

He now has a Doctors appointment and I would maybe make a list of all you want him to ask or he wants to know and these appointments can feel rushed and then we come out and we have forgot things we wanted to ask them but if and I say if he needs any further monitoring or tests in a way it is a good thing they have picked up on this now but until you have spoken to them you do not know what they will say and whatever they do say they will sort things out

Hopefully other members that see your post and have had similar will come along and share their experiences with you :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

I totally understand as I have health anxiety especially with heart health! Has he been checked for cardiomyopathy? I would definitely mention this to the doctors maybe he should have Echo test done to rule out anything serious! I’m sure it’s all ok stress can impact on the heart so much & reading.

Some people do not have any symptoms of high blood pressure at all and many very fit people have had it and not known. I get head aches and pounding pulse in my neck when mine goes up. I was at work one night and we started taking each other's blood pressure just for something to do as all the patients were resting quietly and we'd finished what work we needed to for that brief time. I ended up having to take one of my coworkers to the ER by wheel chair because her BP was 210/150. She could have stroked out at any minute. Fortunately they were able to bring it down and put her on meds

Everyone is different. I don't ignore my symptoms but immediately stop whatever I was doing and rest quietly until it comes back down. It rarely happens anymore since I had a TAVR done and in fact they had to lower my dosage to half what it was. If your husband's BP has gone high then he needs to monitor it when he works out to keep himself safe.

Oddly mine often used to go up when I was doing nothing at all. One night years ago I woke up with a pounding pulse in my neck and temple and was afraid to move at all even though my meds were on the bedside table. It was 2 hours before I it subsided and I felt it safe enough to lift my head up. My BP was still 190 over 112 so it scares me to think what it might have been. I took my med and called the doctor in the morning and he adjusted the dose.

Don't may assumptions because he has always seemed very healthy. Dangerous conditions can be masked until something goes horrifically wrong. Better to play it safe. I know I sound very pessimistic but I lost a friend who was a great athlete, never drank or smoked, worked out and ran daily then had a stoke and died in a simple 10 K run. He'd never had any symptoms until the stroke itself.

I should mention we have been monitoring his BP the past week since the report came back (1 morning, 1 evening) and his diastolic is never over the 80 and the highest his systolic reading has been is 134 so it’s not outrageously high. At its worst the past week it’s been 134/80. Last weekend he stayed consistently 119 or 115 over 65 to 75.

The report shows a delay or disruption in the signal in lower half of the heart. It may just need a lifestyle adjustment. They’ll likely do more tests to determine the significance. It may be his normal, or it may be something caused by lifestyle. I wouldn’t worry too much until he’s been more thoroughly assessed. It’s good that you’ve already identified areas of his lifestyle that may need to change.
