Hi
Does anyone take Omega three oil for heart health and can you take it if you are taking daily aspirin?
I was prescribed Omacor and aspirin after my MI, they stopped the Omacor after the recommended year and I just bought Asda Omega 3 which I use to this day,
Hmm, I was looking at the omega capsules in boots yeaterday and when I asked for advise I was told that they thin the blood and not to take them with aspirin or blood thinners ?
Maybe the advice has changed since my prescription but mine were definitely both prescribed at the same time, that was 14yrs ago. Don't forget aspirin isn't a blood thinner in the way that Dabigatran/Warfarin are, maybe the Boots person was just reading from generic advice. As others have said check with your doctor they will have the latest advice.
I took a well known expensive brand of flax seed oil capsules which are described as a rich source of OMEGA 3 alongside Clopidogrel a blood thinner for a few months before watching a you tube channel. The you tuber said taking flax seed oil had made her hair fall out and having stopped it, it had grown back again. I was really interested in this as my hair had been falling out for a few months but I put it down to getting older and repeatedly using hairdryers and straighteners. I stopped taking it immediately and also stopped using shampoos and conditioners containing sulfates. Surprisingly my hair has now grown back to the thick curly bush it was before. I suppose all things affect people differently and different brands contain substances we may not have used before.
I have taken Omega 3 oils for years and continued their use once I began taking aspirin 4 years ago. No-one identified a problem to me and they all knew. I intend to continue with both.
Thankyou for reply, so your heart team thinks it’s ok then. The pharmacist advised me not to take with aspirin or blood thinners so was confused.
I take my omega oils to help my multiple sclerosis and both my MS consultant and my cardiologist know I take both. Neither have identified it as an issue. However, if I were you I’d get one of your medical people to just clarify that for you - maybe it’s a problem together with other medications you’re taking. It’s a minefield isn’t it when you get conflicting opinions. Go on and nail someone down to give you a definitive answer. Good luck. Sue
Must admit I just work mackerel or salmon in to my diet a couple of times a week plus have Omega 3 seeds in my breakfast cereal. Can't be doing with more pills lol
I take plant based omega 3 capsules as I don't eat fish.
I take it. It is recommended by a few heart surgeons.
I reduced my omega 3 to 500mg from 1000mg when put on Edoxaban anti-coagulant and the Drs seem happy with that.
I've mentioned in a couple of other threads that I have a nutritionist friend that sells health products through multi-level-marketing. Over the past few years I've had at least eight medium-pressure sales talks from her about Omega 3 supplements, then an intense one soon after my TAVI in July that ended with me putting my hands over my face. (She's Ukrainian, and I thought "why aren't you back home interrogating Russian prisoners?"!) My own Internet research suggests that, as I'm on Clopidogrel, I would need to be careful and limit any daily intake of the Omega 3 pills to 2 or 3g.
Heck, she's just given me a Christmas present of 800mg pills, with the packet recommending that I take two a day - and warning that "if taking blood-thinner supplements, consult your doctor before using". OK, I would be under the 2g level, but I would rather not take yet another pill. I already eat a lot of fish.
