Hi. Going to Florida with my family next month. Had insurance quotes around £275 but as soon as I mention my by-pass and stent etc. lowest quote is £930. Enough to give me a heart attack. Any ideas for a sensible quote?

Travel Insurance
How long ago was your surgery? Insurance companies are reluctant to insure people undergoing tests or have had recent surgery.
If you are 50+ StaySure are competitive.
There are many posts here about travel insurance and there are pinned posts from BHF on this site as well. Essentially the answer is to shop around. You might also want to talk to your GP on how you should answer some of the questions. I have worldwide insurance for myself at around £300 - I've had a triple CABG less 12 months ago and I have medication for high BP and high cholesterol. It will very likely be cheaper to insure yourself separately from your family
Hi Tevye , this post on travel insurance might be helpful for you: healthunlocked.com/bhf/post...
Hi Tevye
Yes, shop around.
I get free world-wide travel insurance as a benefit of my banking current account, but because of my health history I have to pay a supplement of £180 per year. That's despite 25 years of CABG, stents, cardio-versions, ablations, ICD, & tablets to control the usual. I've had my policy for several years and their main concerns whether there are any tests or procedures outstanding, or if the medication has changed since the previous year (beyond minor adjustments up or down). I pay a monthly premium to run the bank account, but it's still cheaper than market rate health insurance and includes other benefits like mobile phone and car breakdown cover as well.
It's not clear from what you say, but it's likely to be cheaper if the rest of your family are on one policy and you have your own personal policy.
Insurancewith are usually very competitive.
Have you tried staysure? I found them to be excellent
I too am now insured with staysure after the insurance company who had insured us for 30yrs declined to cover me after my pacemaker was put in. Until then they were charging £88 per trip whether it was 2 nights or 10 nights!
And don’t get me started on Bupa! Once my husband was 60 ((after paying in since he was 17 and added me 10yrs later when we got married) they whacked the rate to an exorbitant rate and admitted to me they didn’t want to cover us any longer. I had just finished 5yrs of treatment for breast cancer.
I too did my insurance through staysure found them to be really helpful and cheaper than a lot of other companies. Hope you get sorted
A bit late coming in here but I have found comparison websites the best place to go to . Insurance companies vary from one year to the next. I used to find Stay sure the best but was then eclipsed by Saga who previously would not insure . I have been quoted circa 3k for a round trip cruise to USA.
