CABG waiting times??

Hi guys, i am seeing the cardiac surgeon on 14th April, so my question is: i am under UHNM and i wondered if anyone knows the waiting times for cabg ( everytime i see this abbreviation i think of cabbage lol) i should have written it in full: cardiac arterial bypass by graft. Such a lot to type on a small keyboard. I know the times vary by area but my gp is very insistent that it is urgent! A bit scary really when your gp is checking up on you weekly and insisting i ring for an ambulance if i have another ha. I must add i have completely uncontrolled angina and can't have any more tablets for it, i am on the maximum dose. Thanks for any positive feedback xx SylviaB.

I was advised that I needed an urgent bypass in mid October 2021. It was done on February 4.

Hi Sylvia - I also was informed mid October 2021 I needed an urgent bypass, was scheduled for end of January, but then told they couldn't schedule me, my cardiologist wasn't happy about this and referred me to other surgeons - I saw a different one early Feb who said he couldn't schedule me, but if I would take a cancellation at very short notice he would get me done in the next coupe of months - I had pre op to prepare and the day after a cancellation came up ! So mine was actually only 4 weeks later than scheduled. Hope you manage to get yours soon.

My surgeon was also swapped but on the actual day of surgery. He did 3 bypass ops on that day.

My fiancé was told he needed a “semi-urgent” bypass in October 2019 at his preop in December he was advised it was now urgent (after more tests)he had it done in Jan 2020 approx a month after it became urgent. He also had it at a private hospital under the NHS as this was quicker.

Hope you get your date quickly.

Waiting times for any treatment or investigation on the NHS depends on the Trust you are assigned to, the hospitals within it, and the urgency that the health professionals place on your condition e.g. 'routine' will be longer than 'urgent'. In other words it can vary considerably. Your cardiac surgeon may have some idea of a waiting time when you meet on the 14th April, but cannot be precise since they are not directly involved in managing appointments and will therefore shy away from making any commitments, however at this stage that's probably the best indication you will get.
