I’ve been using BioOil but my GP’s nurse said Vaseline is fine too. So to me it is the gentle massaging that is beneficial. It think much of the itching is the nerves regrowing.
Currently I’m 4 weeks post surgery so I massage both sides of the scar as it is still healing.
Hello madgranny, I have recently changed from biooil to rosehip oil. Much improved, I also use a substance called kelo-cote scar gel, apply this before putting on clothing gives a barrier plus assists with the massaging of the scar which has been recommended
Bio oil mostly, but also given one by surgeon called Capsaicin which takes the sting away. But Vaseline will do the job just as well if you have sensitive skin.
My husband had cancer surgery recently and was left with quite a large scar. I gave him Jason’s Vitamin E cream, 25,000 iu. It did such a terrific job with the scar that the surgeon wanted to know what was the name of the cream that I had given him. My husband is 83 so his skin is not the skin of a young person. Definitely recommend it.
