Hi hope everyone is safe and well. It’s been fourteen months since my bypass procedure and other than minor issues everything has went well and on the whole I feel good. I walk my dog every morning for about 3 to 4 miles. and the last couple of morning it had been sub zero temperature here in the north east of Scotland and when I get home the top and bottom area of my leg scar is painful. Not to touch but internal more discomfort when resting. I have a long scar from top of my foot to four inches above my knee. Scar healed well and never had issue until now. Would appreciate any input from someone with similar

Yes, my harvest sites are the bain of my life. I had a vein harvested from my right leg between my ankle to just below my knee and an artery from my left arm between my wrist and the inside of my elbow. I can't fault the needlework, but both my ankle and wrist have significant nerve damage and my ankle now has a network of thread veins. Both my wrist and ankle are painful at times and certainly cold weather and walking sets off my ankle. It is like being stabbed with a knife. Sometimes it comes on during the evening after I have had a good walk.
I think all the expertise in my op went into the important bit - the bypass. I have had no issues at all with my internal modifications. At the op site itself is quite a significant scar, thankfully camoflaged by me being fairly hairy and my chest muscles have never fully recovered from being clamped back. I have to avoid sitting hunched up and car seat belts also aggrevate them.
I find that gentle massage is really the only way to relieve the pain in all three areas. I am now two and a half years post op and the situation is improving, but it is a slow process.
Compared to yourself I think I got of lucky. Like you my scars healed well and quickly. Only this winter I have noticed the discomfort. Will try massaging the area like I did during the healing process. Thanks for sharing your experience and advice
Hot baths helps me although not all the time. But the bypass side of thing's didn't go well for me after a year 1 graft was blocked so it's medication for me for now.
My son had a similar problem, he spoke with his doctor and was told - nice thermal long johns in order plus a compression stocking. Working brilliantly for him and he now has a big collection of the thermals and stockings including festive season themed ones, lol!
The TED stocking combined with the long johns should sort it for you, worth a try - but probably best to check with medics before trying the stocking unless you were told post-op the sock is ok.
