It's hard treating the scalp isn't it? I'm running late this morning but will take a look at some of the products I was given for my scalp later and get back to you this evening.

I'm thinking that you probably know a lot more about all this than I do though and would guess you're mainly after a recommendation pure and simple. So just to clarify, are you still willing to put a topical steroid on the scalp, ears and hairline? Or are you looking for something to shift the plaques ..... or an emollient .... or all of the above?!

Hi thank you for taking the time to reply back to me. All of the above and anything else you can recommend I am at a stage I will try anything as I have no life. As I am so embarrassed I try to keep it hidden from people as they stare they think it's contagious I lost most of my friends as I didn't want to go out think they where just fed up with it in the end. So any help is so much appreciated thank you. XXXX

I've used Desonide cream 0.05% for years on my scalp or face for years without any trouble. The spots clear up in maybe half a day. Longer if it's all a bad outbreak.

I only use it as needed. Often I don't need it, but in the past I have had some rough weeks where I used it every day. Today I use it on slightly red areas no one else would even notice but I know that they might develop into something bigger and I want to stop them before they become worse.

I have used many creams over the past 15 years but the only thing that cleared up my scalp, nails and body psoriasis was Humira. I tried Enbrel but it didn't work. The costs for Humira were partially covered by my work benefits and the pharmaceutical company leaving me with a smallish copay. Worth trying!

Thank you for the reply can you buy this or can you get it from dermatologist. Xxxx

Hi Teriny, I know your question about Humira was for Janemac1, but I can answer that while I'm here. Humira is a biologic drug which is injected, and it would have to be prescribed. But that overlaps with what I was thinking which was whether your derm has ever prescribed drugs for your psoriasis? As I understand it there comes a time when this type of treatment may be considered for moderate to severe psoriasis.

For those of us here who have psoriatic arthritis, the drugs often come as standard for PsA and can have spin-off benefits for the skin disease. But with your persistent and extensive psoriasis drug therapy may well be an option.

I've just found the last batch of products my derm prescribed for my scalp. There's Sebco, which is a paste that softens scalp plaques overnight, Dermax shampoo for lifting the plaques the next day and a potent steroid foam, Clarelux for applying a couple of times a week. But I'm thinking you're in the US(?) and if so the brand names might be different. And anyway, care is required .... some of these things are pretty strong.

When my psoriasis was truly driving me round the twist I was under a dermatologist. Even so, I had to get quite assertive and ask for a concerted plan, a daily or weekly regime that even an idiot like me could follow. That seemed to click with my derm and she made sure we went through the exact routine together, bit by bit and then she wrote it down for me. Prior to that I'd had one product after another prescribed with very hurried instructions about how to use them, where to use them etc. etc.

It rather sounds like your dermatologist needs a bit of 'encouragement' to get with the programme. Your psoriasis sounds bad, you shouldn't have to research steroid creams etc. yourself, surely?

Hi no I'm from the uk think I've had every cream, lotion topical, and steroids out there I had tablets also. It looks like it's clearing well then back with a vengeance. I was attending dermatology 3 times a week for 12 weeks for light treatment I'm just so fed up and depressed with it all I also have psoriatic arthritis to. Feels like I'm just going round in circles. Like you I had a very stricken regime 3 times a day for weeks I would just like to be rid of it all together but I don't see that happening. It affects every part of your life well it's more like an existent. Thank you for your help very much appreciated and will definitely be having a long chat with my dermatologist thanks again take care been great to speak to someone who is going through the same thing. Sorry, I made assumptions, the wrong ones!

Are you having treatment for your PsA? The fact that you'd not heard of Humira made me think you'd been handling all this on your own for a while. But perhaps you've been dealing with this for so long without seeing improvement that you've lost interest in the drug options etc.

Perhaps you would qualify for Humira or another biologic, that might just be a game changer for you.

My rheumatologist and dermatologist worked together last year to sort things out as far as possible. I think that's how it should be but the standard of care seems to vary so much. It took me a while to find a good rheumy.

I also have had psoriasis since about 18. Used all kinds of creams. Can't do other medication due to other health issues. I am 64 now and I think I have tried everything other than the oral medication and injection. I found a Bath soap and body cream at Walmart that has been doing great for me. My skin is almost clear. It is called Dr. Teals. it has Epsom salt. in it along with some other wonderful things. It is worth a try and it is like $5.00 each.

Also for my hair the lady that cut my hair told me about Nioxin shampoo. Says they use it on cancer patients when there hair starts to grow back. Been using for a long time and nothing in my hair now. If you go to local beauty supply store they do have a couple of generics of Nioxin that i have used and they are good also. Now I am wondering if a lot of people that have psoriasis has CLL????? If so I wonder what the connection is???
