If you are looking to find folks to chat with, Try Chatty Cafe's. Britain only , I'm afraid, but they offer meetup opportunities to lonely folk over 18.

Its a simple concept, a cafe will set a table aside for lonely folk to sit and chat for a couple hours per week. I used to go to one where I used to live, but I haven't found another one since I moved. Most appear to be in the larger towns, but it's worth a try On the website they have an enormous list, although a few seem to have dropped out, but there is usually a phone number to contact. I thought it might have gone bottom up during Covid, but It is still going.

Might be worth a try.

Yes, I guess; a bit frustrated by the weather, It makes the aches and pains worse. I'm at that age where if you don't use it you lose it, and walking is difficult now.

I cuss like a sailor when anything hurts or I bump into things, and it's happening a lot now, and it's even more annoying trying to get an appointment with a doctor. I've lived here 4 years and not seen one yet.

Oh well, time isn't on my side now, unfortunately!

I help out at a community cafe each week.It is part of the Chatty cafe and Warm space schemes.We are a team serving free drinks and cakes.There is always someone to talk to.We greet people at the door then make sure no one is sitting alone.There are a lot of lonely people that come every week to meet us and the new friends they've made.Some bring their knitting so there is a knitting table now and also a card game table.Once a month we have a simple lunch too.It is so encouraging to see these people smiling and chatting together.I love it.

What a fantastic idea. We do something similar but it’s only every other month. Not enough really. As you say there’s a lot of lonely people out there.

At a previous job there was a colleague there who was widowed in her 40s and was going out and about looking for friendship quite soon after she had been bereaved.

Many years ago my father went to an art class at the town Hall and a lady had approached him offering the hand of friendship which he had ungraciously turned down!

I would have said yes to them and given it a go myself as the worst that happens is you don't like it there and if that happens you don't have to go again just honour what you have agreed and leave it at that is all you need to do!

There was an incident when I was 16 and my father said to me how he would never want to be friends with those in the working class which wasn't very nice!

Who'd want to be friends with him with attitude like that?

I can be a bit like that, private but I find most people like talking about themselves and I’m a good listener.

There's a community cafe here in one of the libraries up the road which is a nice place to go to when you get fed up of being home!

I've just found one at the local huge shopping centre Sandradsn

Some cafes have designated tables kept for the Chatty scheme.Our one is a community cafe anyway so it's there for everyone to chat at every table.

I'm a bookworm too! I have several on the go, I tend not to read a lot of fiction, except for light relief when the more serious subjects start to get to me.

Currently reading The Great Post Office Scandal. It is terrible the things the Post Office did to those Sub- postmasters! I'm beginning to be glad I'm not a politician, with the flak they are taking over this.

I enjoy historical fiction too, Anglo Saxon (Alfred the Great's times), Napoleonic wars, and that sort of thing. Not so much into the Queens of England, Tudors bore me rather.

I have also always enjoyed Science Fiction and it's crossover with fantasy (Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams). I also enjoy Simon Scarrow's Roman novels.

I don't mind a bit of the 'Orrible Murders too, by various authors.

In between my studies of course!

The Chatty Cafes are in person meetups in a cafe. It is an organised thing.
