Hello Dundee :)

Am in the same position have put on just over a stone!

I don't know if you work or not as that could be a problem for you getting to exercise.

I have started doing aqua exercise at my local pool which means it down't put any pressure on my back and joints. I don't eat a lot anyway but do have a bit of a sweet tooth :o So have tried to cut down on that. When I get back from my exercise I just flop out but feel good for doing it. Don't know if that helps or not!

Take care

Sharon :)

Thanks Sharon, you're right I need to start exercising again.I've tried in the past but tend to do too much and make myself ill.I believe pacing is important with this disease!

Grazing on veggies and Humous dips stops the fatigue setting in and me from going mad on the eating. Cut some up and put them in the fridge so you can attack them anytime you feel the need :)

Little and often is the key rather than trying to starve yourself and have 3 meals a day, this stops the sugar levels from swinging up and down too much.

Other than that cup a soups and good old fashion food of meat, fish and fresh veg. As they say breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper.

I agree with sharon with the aqua exercise or Swimming is possibly one of the best exercises as doesn't put too much strain on muscles and joints.

Hi,

I had a similar problem while taking steroids(still on them) and find that they greatly increase my appetite- hence weight gain. I found that sticking to regular meal times and then convincing myself that i couldn't still be hungry so didn't snack on the wrong things helped. I keep diced up melon in the fridge for when i do need to snack and have cut down on salt and increased my water intake all of which have helped me lose weight. As these are the only things i have changed in my daily diet they must be doing the job

Take care everyone

I've just started steroids, do you only put more weight in if you eat more? Or do they make you store more? Thanks Kerry xx

Hi Kerry

I think it is that the steroids increase your appetite so you eat more, to be honest I don't know if they also store more in your body!

Good luck :) xx

Hi there,

Just to add alternative perspective here.... I didn't eat more on steroids, but did put on weight.... They change the way you store fat too, so my body shape changed, quite considerably! At the time I didn't mind, because was just so glad to feel OK, but as I tapered the dose, I became more aware of their impact, and realised it was truly amazing (not necessarily in a good way!!!!).... The most annoying thing though, for me, was other people's response - praising me when I lost the weight as I tapered the dose - I was doing NOTHING different, just reducing the dose, but people were commenting on how good it was to see me 'looking after myself' better etc....

Not what you're looking for?
