I’ll pose this as a three point question and leave it open to anyone who chooses to chase a semi-related rabbit trail.
1)Has anyone read a book or books concerning BD or auto-inflammatory/immune that contributed to a better state of health?
2) What was the book and how did it help?
3) Thoughts and comments on “Behçet’s Disease the Diet Solution” by Helmut Schroeder? As I’m reading it, hopefully and critically, I’m also noticing that the author did not utilize a proofreader nor an editor. This leads to grammatical errors, overarching and overreaching comments that many of us would recognize as incorrect at least some of the time, words capitalized that should not be... these things give cause to question the content even if the intended message is 100% accurate. That’s my disclaimer on the book.
I’m hoping to hear from people who have read this book and tried the diet solution long enough to see if it worked for you. Please share anything helpful that came out of this book.

I will say that my rheumatologist’s nurse asked me if I was back on the Ketogenic diet reminding me that it is anti-inflammatory and that I had noticed that in general I felt better when I was strict in my diet. For me carbs make me feel good while I’m eating but soon after stopping I start to feel less great and eventually that compounds into feeling a “generic yuck”.

Read a lot of stuff off the internet (medical sites) only - not books. Even these articles from medical sites have some statements that I did not find accurate nor convincing.
Carbohydrates: I am tying my best to limit carbs but there are days when my body simply signals fatigue (not hunger) until I get some carbs through.
Or so I thought - see next para of my life’s conundrum.
As I was typing this para, the thought occurred to me that maybe, it is not the carbs that eventually relieves my fatigue but the time factor. It happened yesterday, that is why it is so fresh in my memory. Saturday, I did some exercises. I had 10 hours of sleep, but woke up still tired yesterday (Sunday). I kept eating, nothing was relieving me of the fatigue. By 4:00 pm, after consuming a ton of foods, I felt better. Was it the food or the rest/time elapsed that helped ? I cannot tell.
Most articles classify Behcet as autoimmune - but guess what, I recently saw and article claiming it is something by itself.
Excerpt from article from Congress of Clinical Rheumatology dated 4 May 2019 quoting Dr Yusuf Yazici (director Bechet’s Syndrome Center NYU School of Medicine: « Behcet syndrome is an interesting disease in that it’s not autoinflammatory, it’s not autoimmune, it does not fit a lot of things, and if you look at the Behcet classification, it is just by itself with Cogan symptom among vasculitis conditions, which I’ve never seen, but is not very common. »
Hello! Here is a link to an interesting recent article from Harvard Medical School points to targeting Microglia in relation to autoimmune uveitis as well as « ... future avenue for drug delivery across the blood brain barrier for other diseases of the central nervous system ».
I found that I had exactly the same feelings after reading the book by Helmut Schroeder. Having written and published several textbooks books I can see what has happened there, but you would think someone would have been able to help him out re editing (my mother was my greatest help in this regard). When it came down to his suggestions, personally I didn’t have the willpower for such an extreme diet. (I even find a gluten free diet very antisocial). Not sure if this post has been of any help other than to agree with you. Cheers Lesley
My daughter was the editor/and a staff writer for a small town paper. She’s quick to let me know if I’m being unreasonable on a subject an in this she is in full agreement with us. It isn’t that difficult to find an English teacher from a local high school (US terminology) to red ink a manuscript. Thank you for your feedback.
As for the difficulty in following a strict diet I did fairly well on Keto. I felt better in general, I lost weight and it was pretty easy to follow (maybe because like Daniel and the Hebrew youth I had decided not to eat the king’s rich food😎). That diet is about to start again and after reading HS’s book I’ll determine if I want to reluctantly try his high carb diet. It’s worth it if it puts BD into remission.
