Hip trouble
Hi Sam and not good news I'm afraid. My neck and shoulder (mostly my right) problems started about 7 years ago. I had a terrible couple of years being told by consultants and especially my GP that there was nothing wrong and I was imagining it or depressed or even a Hypercondriac . I couldn't get any treatment and I did almost become suicidal with the pain and lack of sleep. Roll on a couple of years, new doctor, my own research and eventually another consultant and more symptoms, groin, hip, left leg and foot and it was decided I have degenerative spondylitis possibly ankolising and possible accelerated by Behcets. Some docs still don't agree with my diagnosis but at least now I am getting treatment. Over the last 3 years I have managed to reduce my daily meds from highest dose of 3600 to 900 and eventually got off Tramadol (most horrific side effects) and now on CoCodamol . I also get trigger point and steroid injections about every 15 months about 15 each time.
I have also done more research and m helping myself as I really don't like taking lots of meds. I find warmth and exercise the best pain killer and mood enhancers. I walk my dog, swim at least twice a week, I do some gentle exercises before I get out of bed and pace myself with the housework and cooking etc. I keep my shoulder warm with scarves, high neck jumpers, heated lavender bags and a good old fashioned hot water bottle. I now know there definitely is something wrong with me and have learned to accept it as part of BD or even something entirely different and to get on with my life. I have had to make changes in lots of ways both physical and mentally but now in a much better place. I do still get days where the pain is unbearable but at these times I just take an extra painkiller, wrap up and relax as much as is possible but still moving my leg and arm every hour. This is probably not what you wanted to hear and hopefully you will find a different and easier dignosis but dont let it linger, you need to get a scan and even if it shows nothing remember it took me years to get where I am now.
Hugs and wishing you well
Billi
Hi Bill I had a scan on both shoulders and my tendons were in flamed and told I had rotary cuff , the hip pain I've had for two months or so put haven't spoken to anyone about it as scared they will think I'm a moaner , but it's getting worse , I have scatica in both legs due to bugling disc that I've had for over two years so hard to tell if pain in butt is hip , back ,, think I should bring it up now to doctors , thanks for reply
Hi Sam,
I was wondering how you are getting on. Have you been having Infliximab? How are you in general? I had very bad hip (and back) pain when I had a bad flare last year. I also suffer from trochanteric bursitis and get steroid injections in my hip - the pain from that is worse at night and it is difficult to lie on them. I have a serious orthopaedic problem unrelated to Behcet's that exacerbates my hips but groin pain is definitely worth getting checked out - you know your body. I hope maybe other things are better for you? X
