Has anyone had a problem with their toe nails... - Behçet's UK
Has anyone had a problem with their toe nails falling off?
Yes...so painful and annoying. Had to see the chiropodist when they started to grow back as they were starting to ingrow. One session was all that was needed. Just happened the once I'm pleased to say....GP says it's really common in anything autoimmune. Jill
Mine are just awful full stop..... Looks like fungal infection, but dr and chiropodist don't think it is (well, didn't, haven't raised the whole question for years now). Keep thinking I'll find a miraculous way to sort my feet, but haven't - the skin itself very dry and cracked and thick and toenails the same
Yes both my little toe nails fell off in the week immediately following diagnosis. Both my gp and my oh laughed like drains. They grew back but my feet would never win any beauty contests.
I'm seeing that this happens to other BD"ers.....here I thought it was fungal and maybe due to my wearing runners when I go to the gym. And I stress WHEN, as it is not as often as I would like! I never sought treatment, but soak in epsom salt and hot water followed by tea tree oil. I apply tea tree oil to all the toes after every shower/bath. They do get thick, super dry and cracked around the nail bed. None have ever fallen off (almost though!) As they do tend to curl upwards and lift. Seems to only affect the smaller ones. Has anyone found a product or something that helps/prevents this?
Thx
Hi. I am really glad I read your post. I have got terrible toenails and am getting quite distressed with them. All fungal tests are coming back negative so I am getting no treatment and they are just horrible. Nice to see I am not the only one with this problem xx
Too funny that I'm reading your reply to me tonight...I was just looking up on the internet the causes of white spots that you can't rub off your fingernails. They talk about trauma- nothing happened to my hands?? I have these random scattered white spots/blotches on 9 of 10 fingernail beds?? Not the crescent shaped lines you sometimes get- that's trauma. I have no clue what this is?? Oye vay. Otherwise they are ALWAYS cracking and splitting- are your nail issues restricted to your feet? Or hands too?
My thumb nails and my big toe nails seem to flake off whenever I flare, which also the joints most bothered by my arthritis in my hands and feet.
