She was in hospital nearly 2 weeks ago on iv steroids, she is on antibiotics for an infection in her vein on her arm where the cannula was put, could it be oral thrush due to medication, or something else? Thanks.x

Hi, my daughter has woken up today with a white tongue?
Hi,
Not sure if this helps but a few months ago I was on a lot of medication including antibiotics and steroids for infections I had picked up. I too woke up with a white tongue one morning that was very sore and the doctor diagnosed oral thrush due to being on a lot of medication. He gave me Nystatin drops to use and it cleared up within 3-4 days.
I hope your daughter feels better soon. x
I get a white furry tongue when iv eaten crisps..or anything remotely 'stingy'..after a day or so it usually peels and im back to normal..
however I know thrush has the same symptoms so maybe a wee word with your doc incase it is thrush
hope she gets better soon xxx
I had nystatin drops as well a week ago for this as the G.P diagnosed a fungal infection due to the medication.
Prednisolone, antibiotics and Immune suppressants.
A recipe for mouth thrush....ask the G.P to take a look or for something to help it.
Andrea
Thank you all, ive looked today and i think its not bad enough to be thrush, i think its an overgrowth of bacteria as she has many ulcers on her tongue and unable to brush the tongue when she cleans her teeth. Thanks everyone though. x x
Iv had a constant white tongue for about two yrs now n no one knows wat it is
Hello Tamirra
women are used as intravenous steroids and antibiotics, oral infections in the genital area increases matar. This phenomenon is the case in all patients. Has always been an increase in fungal infections with antibiotics. The best indication of this is the language to be white. Generally, Nystatin, ketoconazole, fluconazole, and used drugs such as ketoconazole. NaHCO3 is useful to oral hygiene and oral mouthwash.

Hi Tamirra
I've got a very white tongue at the moment and the nurse in the oncology ward had a look at it and said it was from all the medications I'm on.
She gave me some Sodibic Mouthwash (it is pharmaceutical bicarbonate) - apparently you can buy it over the counter. One teaspoon in a glass of water and rinse out between 2 - 6 times a day. Not sure if my tongue looks better but my mouth does a bit.
Speaking of which, the Neurologist I saw on Thursday said he could give me something for the excessive saliva I have at the moment, but "you are on enough medication to kill a @#$# dog - and you can quote me on that!" (I thought is was very funny but I have a warped sense of humour).
Hope Sinitta is getting better

Hi Lesley, i will tell her about the mouthwash, she is on 16 pills a day at the moment, some she will be stopping in 6 months time which is the iron but the others she will carry on with, so its quite poss its the meds, she not brilliant at the moment she has 16 mouth ulcers so finding it hard to eat etc again, she is determined not to go into hosp again. x
Poor girl! We are not supposed to give advice - however the Chinese say watermelon is very good for mouth ulcers. At the very least she could try it and see if it is soothing. Is that easy to get in the UK?
Lesley
Really Lesley ivve not heard of that, yes we can get thay in most supermarkets or street markets, will get her some today, her 5 year old daughter loves it too. Thank you. x x
Thanks Tamirra
If you do a bit of research on the internet I also think the seeds have some properties but I'm not making any recommendations there.
Years ago I took mum to a Chinese doctor (medical) and he prescribed something called watermelon frost - it was a very messy black powder and we gave up very quickly.
On Sunday I went with some friends to an Asian supermarket and they had the same thing as lozenges.
I had one last night and think it helped and am going to try another. Definitely not recommending this - just passing on the information.
