New here. I've had the Mirina Coil since 2015, it was due to be changed however its gone over thanks to Covid.. I went for a smear last week and the nurse informed me that the hormone will be either low or finished so need it changed ASAP. I have been bleeding A LOT lately and having all sorts of ovarian pains, is this due to the Marina not working?
Has anyone else ever gone over their time
Thanks

I have a friend who had the same issue as you, she has recently had the mirena removed and is trying the mini pill. The bleeding has stopped now. I would arranged to get it removed sooner rather than later.
If you are using the Mirena for contraception, it is only licensed for 5 years , so you would not be covered for pregnancy and should be using another form of contraception until it is replaced. It is licensed for 7 years for menopausal bleeding.
Hi. I went for it ti be changed but they couldn't as I am bleeding every couple of days in between. The nurse has told me in some countries The Mirina is licensed for 7 years ,she has however gave me pills to take also.
I have been referred to Gyno and if they find no problems with my womb lining etc then they will swap my coil
Sorry I should have asked your age . This is the UK guidance about using the Mirena for longer than 5 years for contraception :
◾If the woman was aged 45 years or older at the time of insertion of the device (for contraception and/or heavy menstrual bleeding), she can use the device for 7 years (or if amenorrhoeic until the menopause) after which the device should be removed.
If you are under 45 then the license is only for 5 years for contraception.
