Progestogens don't suit every woman - just like the combined pill doesn't suit every woman. The combined pill is also more forgiving for missed pills - you have only a 12 hour window in which to remember to take the POP. A combination of oestrogen and progestogen can sometimes be better for symptom control for some conditions, like endometriosis , or severe PMS. Some women prefer having a bleed every month to mimic the natural cycle , and also don't want to take a pill every single day. You could ask the question why would anyone recommend hormones , when they could have an IUD ? Simply because not every woman is the same, and they have different needs, so choice is always good
