Apologies if this isn’t the right forum for this but I am currently completing a pre-employment medical for a job and I contracted syphilis this year. I have had full treatment, and everything seems to be fine now but I need an evaluation / review of my case on paper from an infectious disease specialist just to review my case and my results (which I have) to confirm that everything is fine now.
I am not sure where to book in to have this done, and was wondering if there were any specialists on here that could help me.
thank you!

yeah that’s what I thought maybe - I just wanted to see if that because it’s only a review / evaluation of my results if there were any infectious disease specialists on here that could maybe give me said report? Not sure if that’s a thing?
have you actually been offered a confirmed job yet ? Medical screening before an interview is not legal as it can lead to exclusion on medical grounds which is discrimination. Unless the job involves working with food or physical contact with people this shouldn’t be a factor for your employer.
I have been offered the job yes, it’s just dependent on the medical being approved and it can’t be approved until the evaluation has been made. I am an entertainer so there is physical contact involved. I am sure that in the long scheme of things getting the evaluation shouldn’t be an issue, however I thought i would try on here first before I travel across the country to see a specialist 🥲
GP report or the place where you were treated should be sufficient for this. You can give permission for your prospective employer to contact your GP and answer question from the employers occupational health provider.
Employer should not have access to or see your actual medical records and should not be asking you directly, it should all go through an Oc Health third party. Oc Health then writes a report to say you are either fit or unfit for the job. I dealt with many cases like this when I was a TU rep.
ah okay I see so a GP should be sufficient even though they’ve asked for an infectious disease specialist? Because I could book an appointment with my GP instead. Yes it’s all done through the employers PEME medical team.
I’m due to leave for the job next weekend so I’m more nervous about the time sensitivity as opposed to getting the actual report because I assume that’s relatively straight forward… hence why k thought maybe there was someone on here that could review my results etc.
specialist in this case would be a sexual health clinic or medical test. I think infectious disease specialists in this country are more concerned with tropical illness rather than this type of infection. I think you will have to pay for a report as it’s employment related, which is usual. Good luck getting it I the timescale you need. Sounds like the job is in another country.
ah I see thank you for the information. Yes it is onboard a cruise ship. The medical teams that review our pre employment medicals are very thorough and strict so the process is always usually relatively stressful haha. Okay I see. Well I’ve emailed my GP and asked if there are any specialists available at their practice and if not I suppose I will have to contact some private specialists instead. It’s frustrating because I have all of my test results / treatment proof that shows the treatment was successful so it’s annoying that they need such a report.
Sounds like overkill to me. The GP consultation will be on a private basis as employment medicals are not an NHS function. I’m guessing the employing firms is not U.K. and from a country where things are different, so might be a translation error in what they are looking for.
I’m an entertainer also btw musician so good luck with your job.
I really think it’s over kill too I really don’t understand why they would need so much information when I believe what I have should be more than sufficient. It’s very annoying. Yeah they’re a US company. Ah okay I mean I would obviously be more than happy to pay - but I’ve also contact a private practice near me also in the hopes they may be able to provide.
Your nickname is familiar to me from discussions on here. A report can be generated by a sexual health clinic if in the UK , but technically this is non NHS work and therefore the clinic can charge a fee (which goes back to the NHS ) if it is a simple statement of results some services may provide this for free. This would include hepatitis b and c screening , usually BBV only . If it is not the clinic you had treatment at you would need to tell them where and what you were treated with .
hello again yes I remember you. Thanks for your advice again, I reached back out to the original clinic I had another test with on my return home and they eventually agreed to give me a letter stating I’m okay now. It took a lot to get it though and if it wasn’t for them doing it absolutely nowhere else would… it’s all very strange but here we are. At least they’re doing it for me now.
