3yrs ago I had the coil removed ,id had it in for 7yrs I had it taken out as I had heard it it had been in for over 6yrs it needed to be taken out health reasons .. after the Dr removed it she said I was ok leaving it in ,it would've been different if I was in my 30s .I was NEVER told before had it was ok to leave it in .. To this day I am still struggling for my GP to put in a new one "as Iam not at the menopause stage " according to her she will not do it for me .I thought every woman was different and a woman can start the menopause any age from thier 50s .she gave me H.R.T tablets I DIDN'T ask for them .and told me to use precautions .. .I told her..if I went back to and I found out I was pregnant she "wouldn't be impressed and I'd be careless for getting pregnant " (her words) ".. the coil was inserted in the first place due to heavy bleeding and it helped the pain as I needed a hip replacement ..Any ideas how I could get another one put it

Ok so I presume from your post you are still having heavy periods ? for contraception purposes you need to not have had periods for 2 years under the age of 50 or one year over the age of 50 , before it can be said you do not require contraception. If you have bleeding problems, then a mirena is safe and effective. However sometimes women require an assessment first ie ultrasound, checking smears are ok etc. I cannot see a barrier to your GP practice placing one, if they will not and you require bleeding control and nothing else works, I would attend a reproductive health unit or ask to be referred to gynae.
