Bleeding after sex, copper iud

Hi all, I had the iud inserted 3 months ago and my periods have been awful, super heavy and long (I have never had bad periods so it may not be as bad as I think). Also I have had a lot of spotting in between and in the last month I have noticed bleeding a day after having sex. Has anyone experienced this? Should I get this checked out?

Thanks xx

Have you had chlamydia testing ? The copper IUD can certainly make periods heavier longer and more painful in some women. If you had your IUD inserted under the NHS, I would probably return to the service and have a discussion about swapping it for a Mirena IUS.

Hi thank you. I had a Chlamydia test last November which was negative. It was under the NHS, I will phone today. Thank you

No problem at all. Another option is to take the combined pill for a while to see if it settles, but personally I feel if you have stuck this out for three months then it may be best to swap.
