I had the copper coil fitted about three weeks ago and it was horrendous. I wasn’t nauseous, unable to move, fever and sick several times and faded in and out of consciousness on top of stomach cramps!! The past week I’ve had really bad stomach cramps that I’ve had to sit down and have felt really sick or weak. I’m yet to have my first period on the coil but I’m starting to think is it worth getting it taken out. I have my final year uni exams in a month (falling on the time my period is due) so cant really afford to be bedridden for three days like I was when it got fitted. It’s also draining being in pain a lot ☹️
My periods used to be awful in terms of pain so I had a prescription to help with the pain. But is it worth sticking through the pain for the benefits in the end? If so, how long did it take? Or shall I just get it taken out now?
Thank you!

Mossy if you already experienced painful periods ( dysmenhorrea ) then I would have opted for a Mirena coil rather than the copper. Some women do experience a lot of discomfort on coil insertion - some none at all. How long is your cycle ? you will have one period before the one at the time of your exams. If you still feel poorly at the time of this months period, you could have it removed. Another option is to take the pill for the next 4-6 weeks ( you don't need the pill free week after 3 weeks, its safe to take it up to nine weeks straight ) and then you will avoid having a period at that time. All depending on your medical history and ability to take the pill of course.
