I've been on the depo injection for around 9 years but wanted to get back into a normal routine with a cycle. I went on the combined pill but due to high blood pressure I had to change to the progestrogen only pill. This has caused my periods to stop again.
I was wondering about changing to the copper coil. The bonus of having no hormones is appealing, however I've heard a lot of horror stories about constant, heavy bleeding. Having not had a period for so many years, this is something that I find quite daunting. Can anyone advise?

The whole hormone free thing appealed to me as well, I did my research and got it put in Dec 2018.
My first cycle was fine, heavy, slight cramping and lasted 5 days. Checked my coil and could feel my stings. However, my next one was eight days late and prior to that I had pain during sexual intercourse. I checked to feel my IUD again and I couldn’t feel it anymore! I spoke to some of my friends and they said they can’t feel there’s but they got it checked and everything was fine. So I just left it but I still felt like something wrong.
I got my period yesterday and it was extremely heavy and the cramps kept coming and going through out the day.
Today I went to my gynaecologist because I booked the appointment whiles I was late. I told her I felt stupid but I was concerned about it, so she had a look to put my mind at ease.
Turned out my coil had moved! The strings were bent backwards and the coil had moved. She told me I was no longer protected and suggested for me to get it removed which I agreeed.
However, it could be okay for you but from my personal experience it obviously wasn’t the right one for me.
