Hi I've had the copper coil three years now and my periods have been excruciating. I think I have a high pain tolerance, but when I'm on I just want to curl in bed and cry because I can barely move or walk with out being doubled up. I keep telling myself it will get better and it did for a month or so but it's goten even worse now and seems to be concentrated on one side and for some reason worse the day after I've had a drink. The doctor didn't seem interested in removing it and gave me pain killers instead. I don't know what to do as I don't know what is normal and wether I should be worried? Help!

Extreme pain with copper coil
I haven't experienced periods with mine yet as only had it in 2 weeks but have heard they are pretty painful. The fact it's only on one side sounds a bit strange. Did your doctor check it was still in the correct place? Could you request an appointment at a family planning clinic and get a doctor to check and/or ask about your symptoms. X
Hi,
I have had a couple copper coils now, im on my third one and yes i agree I have had the painful periods and thought it was the norm. But with my recent one i dont get as much pain at all. I would say it is good to have it checked out. I would go to a GUM/ Sexual health clinic rather than your gp. As some GPs have no clue.
I did have one coil for about 7 years and started to get pain all the time and i pushed to have an ultrasound and it had moved down so i got it replaced. Its always good to get it checked out. I hope this helps.x
