I had my copper coil changed in Nov 17 after my previous one ran out after 5 years. it was changed to a 10 year one. Since it was swapped I have ongoing abdominal pain most days. I would describe it as period like pain low in my abdomen. I had my coil checked after 6 weeks and swabs taken, all normal. It still hadn't settled after 3 months so I was sent for a scan. All normal. Saw a gynae and he seemed to think it could either not be sitting properly or too large, was willing to swap to a smaller 5 year coil.
After 5 months it was still no better, abdominal pain and intermittent spotting/ bleeding. I went back back to the family planning clinic on 12 April and it was removed. The nurse gave me the mini pill. Said to leave everythign for a few months to calm down. The nurse said I could return and have a different, smaller copper coil fitted again in a few months. However, since its removal i still have the same abdominal pain. Its now nearly 2 weeks. Is this normal? Should I go back to the GP? The nurse said the POP pill may now disguise the intermittent bleeding i was having as it can stop your periods. I am worried I've had a pelvic infection since November but no one seems to think that is the case. I have had no other symptoms other than this pain, no discharge, just the irregular spotting when I had my coil.
Its not normal for me, I had 5 years with my previous coil and no problems at all, no pain, no spotting and my cycle was bang on to the day. The pain started when the coil was changed.
I don't want to stay on the pill forever, I had a coil because I liked the fact it was fitted and I could forget it, and no hormones. I obviously don't want another one fitting until this abdo pain settles down.
