Making friends

Hello. I have gone through life with no proper friends and I’m so incredibly lonely. I was bullied as a teen in school and as an adult find making friends very difficult because people tend to think I’m a weirdo or hard conversational work and I also feel I am too boring for people as they seem to quickly lose interest. I used to make up stories to either fit in or try and seem more interesting but worked hard to change that as I want to be myself and not feel the need to make stories up. Can anyone relate?

When I was at school, it used to be easy because we had a common interest, Science That's what you have to do - do adult course or something that interests you and you can talk about. LBCc - talking radio has a lot of subjects to talk about - so that might be another idea! Otherwise listening to the news or online internet news!

Hi Mary. I think the key is to be yourself and be confident with that rather than cause unnecessary stress by trying to fit in. By being yourself you will attract those who will find you interesting and able to relate to you in a positive way.

Hi Can I ask what age group, my now 33yrs old Son had Bullying in his School years & still affected by that. He has still got alot of innocence & is an Empath. He too struggles to have any friends, but is intouch with 2 only by Text really. He goes blank, freezes when he sees a possible interaction with a young lady he likes the look of & his Communication Skills go out the Window so to speak. He feels very lonely & is vulnerable to others taking advantage of him. My advice would be to look at online groups ASDc & Chat, he has found some are good & some stress him out. There are also Dating sites for LD, ASD etc, if you have Carer ask to check them out with you, keep you Safe too. Online Hobbies eg Art Chat, or something of interest to you, is good conversation, chat & friendships online, may be a thought to join in etc. Befriending MIND do have this, although waiting List.
