i have ca is headaches blurd double vision one of the symtoms
That sounds annoying.
I am not sure about the headaches and I think I would probably get a check-up to be certain it is nothing else.
The double vision is definitely ataxia. When I have my annual check-up in London, they always ask me if it has been a problem. I do not have it, yet. My Dad did suffer from it. He was a farmer and enjoyed checking the sheep. He had a nightmare trying to count them though and had to close one eye to get the count right!
Hello Lilly
CA is the same disease as SCA, I think.
Your story about your father counting sheep
and having to close one eye to get right the count
is VERY interesting.
I close one eye as well e.g. when concentrating on
eating.
I wouid much like to know if that´s typical of
SCA.- suffefrers.

Hiya!
I have SCA6 and double vision is a big problem for me too, closing one eye is how I focus on things too.

All the answers are very interesting to me,my eye sight has deteriated very rapidly in the last few years. Occasional double vision and not being able to focus on objects 10feet away being the norm now.
It sounds silly, but I do try to exercise my eyes (the old thing of use it or lose it).
I get bored doing my 10 minutes on my bike (statuary, I hasten to add). During this time I stare ahead at a point and turn my head from side to side for a count of 60, I then do the same stare and move my head up and down. This makes me feel a bit yucky so I only do 20. If I am really bored I do it again later.
When I had my annual tests at the hospital, I think she said my eye responses were quite good, so you never know!?
thanks to everyone who replied
it sounds like you need to visit the opticion to get your eyes tested the strain on your brain of sorting your vision can cause headaces [I found that in my case the mussels in my eyes adapted so the readings the opticion got changed as he checked in my case I found that telling him this helped him] and by the way don't be pressured into buying glases from them prescriptions are seperate from purcheses and can be filled anyware
I have CA too.I don't get headaches but it takes me ages to focus.I don't move my head around much as that is when I would fall. The whole room spins while my eyes are trying to focus.
I have ca and have slight double vision and sometimes get headaches really bad. I think double vision causes the headaches especially when I've overdone things. I have a prism in my glasses now and only tend to get bad headaches when prescription needs changing. My eyes have deteriorated quite quickly as far as vision is concerned but I use a computer at work which doesn't help matters
Hi gazzal
Headaches are not a symptom of CA and if these continue you should go and see your GP about them.
Visual problems including double vision can be related to CA. However there are other causes as well and it is important not to attribute every problem you have to ataxia. It might be that the two are connected and with a deterioration in your vision for whatever reason you need glasses, or a stronger prescription of lens if you already wear glasses, and because you are straining your eyes, this is causing you to have headaches.
In conclusion I would recommend a visit to your GP and also to the optician to have your eyes tested.
I must stress that eyesight changes secondary to ataxia occur very gradually. Any rapid or sudden deterioration is extremely unlikely and you should seek medical advice quickly.
Best Wishes
Harriet
I was diagnosed with CA in 2011. My eyesight began to be effected in 1998, I became
aware of double vision which progressed to what my GP thought was conjunctivitis.
Extreme pain forced me to Casualty where it was quickly diagnosed as Iritis. The
double vision has gradually worsened, requiring continuous up-grading of prisms to
regain normal sight. I feel that the Nystagmus we Ataxians suffer from is at odds
with the benefit I get from the prisms, making my balance worse to control. By this
I mean, it seems as though 'bouncing eyes' across a fixed prism is disconcerting.
Sitting I'm much less aware of a problem. Prior to the double vision, I did have a
week of really severe headaches. Now I have cataracts setting in!
Years ago I used to suffer from episodes of vertigo, sometimes lasting several hours.
Recently I started doing Pilates, having been advised it would help strengthen core
muscles and promote better balance. Lying down to do the exercises brings on
nausea, last week I took my glasses off and just closed one eye. Bingo, much
better! The trouble is this one-eye business gets to be a habit, even with the
glasses on!
My apologies for banging on, many thanks to all who had the patience to read
this.

double vision is often a part of most types of sca and it can be the cause of headaches so see an optician they can often help by putting prisims in your glasses. In my case my eye mussels adapt so the oppticin had to use the 1st reading he got. As for closeing 1 eye before I got my glasses I did it so much that my natural expresion changed.
I have problems with my left eye (blurry/double vision). I've been told by my neurologist that this is a result of my ataxia. I rarely have a headache though. I often close this eye when doing things, as it's annoying! My best to all..., ;o)
