I used to go for a swim and sauna at least twice a week. I have not been near a swimming pool for about five years because of my ataxia. I would have to rely on someone to take and support me. I would love to go back again. Any suggestions thanks?

Swim and Sauna
Hi Iain
I wish I could swim A childhood experience has stayed with
me and despite lessons I've never managed to overcome my
fear of water
I'm told that being buoyed up by water is a very relaxing
experience, I hope you are able to enjoy this again. It's such
good exercise for your legs and so gentle
Best wishes xB
I taught myself to swim as it was a requirement to get into the RN.
One of the good the good things I did, I loved swimming.
Not been for a swim since I left the Navy back in '79.
I have to rely on my daughter and the hoist working at the baths but even though I can no longer swim I enjoy doing my exrcices
Hello there Iain
I too have not been for a while but have just been a spoilt cow. My Ian treated my daughter Kate and I to a Spa day at our local spa. If you go online you can find special deals and carer free. Although I use a frame around the house, I was in my wheelchair that day. I find pubic cope better when they see a chair. I LOVE the turkish wet sauna and we took my wheelchair in and with help I even got in the pool. It was heaven!
I also had a deep massage. All in all, a real treat.
I am also lucky and see a friend who is my neuro-physio every 8 weeks or so. At our last session she gave me my first hydro therapy lesson. Such fun. I used to love swimming but I spend all my time trying to stay afloat. She had an inflatable collar and some woggles and they were brilliant. I lay back in the water and put a woggle under my hips. See if you can get a hydro-session.
Hope this helps.
Love Lit
