Good morning all

I hope u all had a good Christmas despite the circumstances .

I would like to ask if any of you have problem with progressing blurry vision. A week ago I woke up where everything was a blur and couldn’t see anything what was written. I thought that after 2h it will go away but unfortunately it hold me for the next 2 days. I rang 111 and they send an ambulance. However as my 10 years old son was with me I couldn’t go to hospital with them to be tested (husband was on night shift). It really scared me I thought I might be going blind 😭

I’m so sorry, that must have been especially scary when you were alone with a child. I’ve seen posts mentioning blurred vision, but whether or not this is definitely linked to ataxia will depend on a specialists opinion. My own eyesight is becoming progressively blurred, in my case this is thought to be linked to Cataracts but I’m waiting to see a Specialist to have this confirmed.

Oh bless u wobblybee. I had extra eye test done about 2 months ago due to my progressive blurry vision but my specs stays on the same prescription and been told it must be more neurological issues. I am trying to avoid trips to gp’s as in this case they have no clue what to do.

In my experience GPs are only able to help by making a referral for further investigation, specialist opinion is essential, but at the moment hard to get. Just before the first lockdown I was put on a waiting list to confirm Cataracts were causing my most recent problem of blurriness. My eyesight is fairly good, I have minimal strength in both reading and distance glasses, but other eye problems affect accuracy. 🙂I’ve had very good treatment by a NeuroOpthamologist, my Optician made a referral to a local hospital eye department after she detected abnormalities.

I’m glad u have been referred for further investigation and wish u all the best with sort sorting out 🙂. I will try get in touch with my gp and see if he can refer me further but as u said atm it might take a long time .

My first symptom was blurred vision which then became double vision with nystagmus(wobbly eyes) not sure if it’s the same for all sufferers but it may sound horrible but u do get used to it unbelievably. Hope u get some clarification soon 👍

My daughter has SCA2 and has developed double vision. Easiest seen when looking at traffic lights. Nothing can be done about it. Will eventually lead to loss of eye control.

The deterioration with Ataxia is continuous. Age of onset is very important in the way the disease develops and how rapidly it progresses unfortunately
