My sister was a red head (white now) did not know it had more than the sunburn and fiery temper with it tested for as a health risk that could harm people.

I have never been a smoker, due to seeing what it did to a beloved grandfather, that was upsetting enough to make me never want to indulge the habit. With the current adverts on TV I don't see the written link being any worse. It is my general opinion that smokers will only ever attempt to give up when they are ready to do so, and if they can do so because it is so difficult for some to kick the habit for a variety of reasons. No amount of advertising or articles will alone change them, but that is just my opinion.

For those of you who have lung conditions as a result of smoking I am pretty sure that the majority of you if you possessed the knowledge and experience you have now would never have started the habit.

The people I have experience of who have given up or attempted to give up, have either been told to do so because of health scares by the medical profession, or for the sake of their children, and wanting to see them grow up and have futures, because they know that if they continue to smoke their chances of seeing their children grown up in the future lessens. But that is my personal experience only.

What does sadden me is seeing young people indulging in the habit, yesterday on my way to the GP again with my Asthma, I walked by 3 young women, all stood outside a medical practise inhaling away on the little white sticks. They were all extremely good looking and had the potential to have long lives, I felt sad, here I am just 42, never touched a ciggie in my life and gasping for air. I so wished to put them in a room with those suffering from a lung condition that was caused by smoking, and let them see the long term effects, and the risks they are putting themselves at. Today we have so much information on what long term smoking can do, and yet many young people start the habit every year.

So does that link frighten smokers into giving up, no, and is it wrong to describe it like a crime scene what smoke can do to the body, no not really, because smoke and nicotine and all the other chemicals in cigarettes do destroy the body, only difference between the damage a stabbing and cigarettes is the length of time it takes to commit this act.

I don't believe that this article sets out to make smokers look like they are committing an act of crime against their bodies, it was just a way of describing the damage long term smoking can do. Whilst I hate smoking, I do understand those who are addicted to the habit and feel very much that since the no smoking in various locations is no longer permitted it has become worse for non smokers. I believe that just as much as non smokers should be protected from second hand smoke, smokers should also be catered for in appropriate places. After all smoking is a personal choice and not a crime.

Glad the link was here wondered what was been read by Daxiemad until I used it.

I don't think people should be allowed to smoke in the open air. It should be an activity you can only do in your own home or car! I've never smoked, because of life-long lung problems, but have every sympathy with people trying to quit & the greatest respect for those who achieve it.

I must confess it annoys me that I can no longer sit in a pub garden on a warm summer evening, as it's crowded with smokers. Same goes for the beach, people lighting up around children - it's not right.

No mention of this 30 years ago when we all smoked if I knew then what I do now would it have changed much, can't say we were young and had no time for things that spoiled our fun.

I have never asked why me. Because I know the answer is because I smoke. I have cut down with a view to quitting but I am finding it extremely hard right now. No excuse I know as I am playing with my own life.

I do not believe things will scare smokers into giving up. My mother in law told me about the new adverts for quitting where the tumour grows out of the cigarette. So I thought I would watch them to see if it put me off. All I did was turn the advert off, Stupid I know.

But for all those trying to quit I wish them well xxxxx
