THANKYOU TO EVERYONE I didn't relize I could of rang 111 but now in future I will what a mess I made yesterday looking to see if I had doxycyline I found enough till Monday lucky it's only one away so roll on tamora my sinusitis feels abit better I now can gently blow my nose and blimey its very infected no wonder I felt gross I slept really well up at 4 I always up early I was coughin terrible could not breathe wheezing terrible moving even coughin sittin down ya think I had a run I thought blimey I can't cope with this so I took my steroid tablets and it has eased my breathing I took them at 430 this I wonder if it's because sinus infected it's caused a flare up I don't know just guessing my daughter sorting the mess I made with desperately looking for doxycyline I might have missed previously when had them has anyone else found that if they suffer with sinusitis that it caused a flare up with copd

I had a terrible time with infected sinus's that caused me alot of problems with my chest. Sadly I didn't know what was wrong and neither did my gp or hospital so it went on for far longer that it should have and it has left me with long term problems , so make sure that the infection has cleared up properly. The ent surgeon finally put me on a low dose of Doxycycline for 6 six weeks that helped to clear the infection. I had a ct scan before and after to ensure all six of my sinus's had cleared. I hope you are feeling better x
Thankyou it's terrible sinus lucky I came across doxycyline after searching had enough up to day I'm alot better iv seen a consultant he said that my nose had no problems just severe infection with inflammation but it makes you really unwell it would be just over year ago I saw him

Maybe I am misunderstanding but you should not take steroids without an antibiotic unless it is a low dose maintenance dose of steroids. Steroids work by suppressing the immune system and that in turn reduces inflammation but also leaves you susceptible to an infection because your immune system is suppressed.
To be honest I really don't know I've had copd for about 7 years now or just under and to be honest I never get any information about anything even when I've asked odd things they just say oo well try this but nothing that's any value they won't even send me to hospital to see a consultant were things would probly be better assessed I only know about breathing rehab from good peaple on forum in the past an odd time I've had had steroid tablets and no infection just inflammation docter said I get 5 mg and take 6 prednisone don't know if that's high I would take them for 7 days to be honest you could be right I'm totally unaware with lack off information I get and as long as I get better which I am improving I'm really pleased for you're reply because with out peaples knowledge and experiences I'd be all on my owen with what should and shouldn't be happening this is why I value this forum there must be loads off peaple out there like me who don't know
It is really unfortunate that many doctors seem to just leave people with COPD to find their own information instead of giving them the advice they should be given. You may take steroids without an antibiotic and be okay but you do leave yourself susceptible to an infection without having an antibiotic at the same time. My doctor always gives me steroids and an antibiotic to be taken together just as a precaution. It is great when the steroids do their job and help your breathing. I believe the people that are on a maintenance dose of steroids get 5 mg a day, but some may get a different dose. It is also important to not take steroids for longer than I believe 7 days in a row or you will have to taper off of them rather than just stopping them.
