Hi Hometeam. I had a bronchoscopy last year and am an oxygen user. It was perfectly fine. They take really good care of you and there was a nurse in the room who's sole purpose was purely to check your on through the whole process. Just remembered to relax and you'll be absolutely fine. ☺️

Thank you I think it’s because it goes down and I cannot feel when it does only by testing it

I am the same, you will have an oximeter on at all times. Please don't worry, you'll be in very safe hands

You will be in safe hands, they can soon reduce the sedation

Ultimately you have to do what's right for you. But if you don't you'll end up kicking yourself for not having it done, I did. it's thanks to the people here that I now feel able to do it and will be able to find out what type of fibrosis I have and what treatment I need. I'm still scared but I know it's the right thing to do.

Have you got fibrosis or was it inflammation on your lungs

I have something called CPFE, combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema. It's rare and incurable and it's only over the last twenty/thirty years or so they have realised that it is one condition, rather than two and started studying it more in-depth.

But mine is currently stable which is great news.

The thing I keep in my mind is that we are all different and so I'm remaining positive .

Hi, I had a bronchoscopy a few months ago with sedation. Not something I’d like to repeat but apparently it’s seriously nasty without the sedation. I heard a lot of coughing and spluttering but didn’t fully realise it was coming from me. You’re still conscious but quite far removed from yourself. You’re also wired up to all the monitors recording all your vitals. All very professionally conducted. Sometimes you just have to trust to the experts. I hope it goes well for you, it’s a necessary procedure to see what’s happening.

Don't worry , they will give you some " happy meds" they do this every day and are prepared for you as on oxygen.your heart and lungs are monitored. This is a better way to find anything so they can help you along with scans. Your doctor has decided this is the best way to help you, I know it's scary , when you have had it done you will think well that's all over now .I don't think there is anywhere I have not had cameras lol.As things are I feel you are lucky to be offered this test as the NHS seems to be a very long list for things now. Stop stressing it will be over before you know it .

Thank you . I think I’m ok with it in a while as it’s got to be done what worried me is I don’t know when my oxygen drops to the 80s it does go back up after sitting dwn etc but then can drop again

I'd not worry,there are drs & nurses with u and yr monitored throughout.youll be awake,but sedation includes a memory blocker,so u don't recall most of procedure.they obviously think it's needed+ can provide a lot of information x

Hi I have had probally 12 bronchs in my life everytime I was fully asleep and when i awoke there was no issues except a min sore throat ... they are very important to see whats going on in your lungs Plus i acually found that it was quite helpful as it sucked out any fluids inside me... best of luck and dont worry

Hi. I have bronchoscopies without sedation. Not pleasant but an option nonetheless. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi Hometeam

I found the Bronchoscopy procedure (have had two over a ten year period) really ok - bit uncomfortable but the consultant and her nurses were brilliant and it didn't last long either. Then I spent an hour or two in 'recovery' to let the sedative wear off and then caught the bus home. You'll be fine.

Best regards

You will receive twilight sedation. You won't feel or remember anything and you will be completely relaxed. It may feel like a dream. There is nothing to be afraid of, so please don't worry!
