Although I read the posts, I’m not a good at contributing but I’m at my wits end😐
I have worked all my days , but now I’m retiring through I’ll health, and I’m trying to claim benefits .
I have now been informed that an assessor will be giving me a home visit ... I’m really worried about this , does anyone know what’s involved ?
TIA

I had a home assessment. A young lady traveled all the way from Birmingham to Nottinham/Derby, at 8am on a Sunday morning for this. I was very fortunate as she was very pleasant and asked me all about my various conditions. She could see I was in pain and had difficulty moving, standing and walking a also my breathing was laboured. I used my inhalers and let her see the disability AIDS I used and adaptations . She took about an hour. I was awarded full PIP for mobility and care. May I wish you very good luck.
I had to have a visit. Had a lady she just sat with me. I suffer with copd anxiety and panic attacks. She was very understanding. She had me do a little walk up the hallway which was difficult and hard for me. Asked more questions. Just be honest with your answers. I had an image of a monster but she was lovely.
Relax maybe have someone with you I had hubby who is my carer. So he was a calming influence for me
I’m still awaiting a appointment , they say everything is all backed up because of the holidays . I didn’t ask for a home visit , that’s what they deemed I needed ... so they say these appointment take longer to allocate .
They said that to me. Be ready have all your paperwork ready. Tell them what equipment you use. Let them know who you see ie. Rehab. Consultant . If possible have someone with you to help you stay calm.
Yes I have the blue badge thank good ness ... and my gp is a tremendous help . She is backing my retirement, she has been at me to leave for the last 3 years... thanks I will have my equipment at hand . Can’t thank you enough all for your help
Not a problem let us know when your appointment comes through. It is good when you have a gp who helps you etc which ours did as well. Shame he had to retire 3 months ago. There are a couple of doctors left who know us and are are helpful. Waiting for new gp to start.take care.
Hello Jaysmac - I hope you've been reassured by the replies you've already received here. I suggest you call Biddy_ALUK for further advice on your home visit. See her post here - healthunlocked.com/blf/post........
Thank you all for your advice . I’m just dreading the whole thing,I only claimed the mobility part of this , about 12 years ago ... and I haven’t try to claim anything else since (the fear of losing the benefit I had ) , but now my circumstances have changed .
I find myself at 54 having to retire through illness ... I have asthma , copd, fibromyalgia, mechanical back pain .. and osteoarthritis in my knee ...my employer (NHS) has been good over the last 10 years allowing me to work amended duties, buri can’t manage them now .
That sounds awful. Maybe get your daughter to complain. I must have been lucky with my home visit. They just asked about my conditions etc. Dont give in.maybe a home visit would be better they say 6 weeks gave me date etc. But I rung in every afternoon just in case of cancellations. They didnt ask such personel questions with me. These young ones need to go back to school to learn about compassion etc. Dont give in.
