Happy New Year everyone! Just wondering if anyone else has any side effects from Rivaroxaban? I'd been taking 20mg per day since 2017 with no noticeable side effects. I not only have AF but Bronchiectasis as well. Needed to put a sputum sample in for testing and carried this out in the usual way and when I looked in the pot there was a blood clot, this carried on for another 4 coughs at which time my husband took me to A&E who were excellent. Long story short after being seen by my respiratory consultant and in agreement with Cardiologist, I was taken off 20mg Rivaroxaban for 4 weeks and then restarted on 15mg once a day. Since then I have had palpitations, thankfully not leading to full blown AF. Also indigestion, reflux and headaches. I also take Adizem 120 slow release and 50mg Flecainide 2 per day as well as my many respiratory medications. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated from this wonderfully supportive site.

I have bronch, AF and dilated cardiomyopathy. I took rivaroxaban for several months but had two nasty bleeds . I was then put on apixaban which was better but I decided not to take these drugs at all. Balancing off the risk of a stroke against the risk of a haemorrhage because the bronch means I have compromised blood vessels in my lungs. I think maybe you would be wise to ask to be moved from rivaroxaban to one of the other anticoagulants.

Thank you for replying & very interesting information. It just seems strange that I took the 20mg for 5 years with no side effects. I’m wondering if it’s the interaction with Adizem and/or Flecainide. I think I’ll get an appointment with my cardiologist and see what he has to say. I have to say that the 4 weeks I didn’t take Rivaroxaban I felt a lot better.

I don't know those other two drugs. I really never felt right when I was on rivaroxaban. I think a talk with your cardiologist is the best idea. There are other drugs that they can put you on. Good luck. I hope you get it sorted.

Interesting Littlepom. I take Rivaroxaban 20mg and have for a while. Doctors put people on new blood thinners this days, problem is the new ones seen to be like Rivaroxaban. I take your point about the compromised blood vessels, glad I don't have to make that decision.

I near carked it with a episode of VT and Have AF and two moderate leaky valves which can cause pooling which could end up with clots on lung or even brain - I do not like any blood thinners, but what can I do - Devil and deep Blue Sea comes to mind.

I am on rivaroxaban max does, 20mg - I was given it for AF and two faulty heart valves. I have had no problem with it thus far, I do take care though I have reflux also.

The problem is with leaky valves and AF, any pooling could change to clots. I had a nasty fall and smashed my nose, to my surprise I did not get a bleed.

The other new blood thinners are mush the same, with Warfarin the constant need to be tested.

You are on Flecainide - I am on amiodarone which has ruined my Thyroid and having a go at my eyes. I was given it for VT it also helps AF but it's a toxic drug, I now take half strength,

last year I was out with a friend in a shop went to blow my nose and a blood clot appeared got the shock of my life and went to Boots chemist and asked what I should do they said if you get another one go to the Drs needless to say I was ok but it was an awful shock fortunately I’ve been ok since then. I too have AF. Apparently as well you are supposed to be monitored for your kidneys. Take care.
