I have been attending a respiratory consultant for quite some time now & he diagnosed a lung fungal infection & prescribed intraconozle tablets 4 per day, I am feeling so much better now as a matter of fact I have never felt as well as what I do now, I was surprised to receive a letter that I have been referred to a Respiratory Medicine Outpatient appointment,I do not understand why I got this letter as I a have an appointment with my respiratory consultant this week & was hoping that I would not require any more Intrconozole medication. I would very much appreciate if any of my dear friends on this forum would be able to explain to me why I received this letter. Thank you so much, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Love, 💘 Primrose 123..

Why not phone your consultant's secretary today and ask if they know? It may be a change of date for your existing appointment or a glitch in the system, but either way, they may be able to advise you. Otherwise, ask your consultant when you see them.

It's great to hear that you're feeling so well following the treatment. Long may it continue! xx Moy

Look up Intraconazole on line to see possible side effects. Can cause liver damage I believe, so you don't want to take them for longer than necessary.

all medications have side effects which we need to be aware of but the consequences of allowing a fungal infection to run untreated can be disastrous!

Hi Primrose 123

I’m just getting over a thing called Aspergillosis which is what they give you Itraconazole for. It’s a fungal infection that is caused by a fungus in the air that everyone breathes in and I am allergic too. Maybe you too. Damp or mould can cause it. I’ve been poorly for seven weeks with it. In the end I had steroids which has made me feel much better. Like you I’m feeling much better than I have for a while. Still coughing a little though.

They were following me up every year until Covid hit. I’ve now got to go back and see them again. It can be quite a serious thing. Hence the follow up. Dont worry about it they know what they are doing.

Thank you Mavary for your most kind & helpful reply, I am delighted that you are feeling so much better now & yes I'm sure that everyone"s reaction to various drugs differs, in my case Intraconozle has been a wonder drug for me so much better than steroids, I feel so long as you have regular blood tests all should be fine,I hope all works out well for you Mavary & may God bless you always..Love, Primrose,123..

Hello Primrose. So glad itraconazole has worked for you. I’ve got aspergillosis and have been on & off it for long periods over 20 years, and my liver is just fine, so don’t worry about that. You should be offered occasional blood tests to check.

If not treated, aspergillosis can lead to invasive fungal balls in the lungs, causing ruinous damage, so if you need antifungals you can’t not take them. I don’t know whether you’ve heard but it’s been in the news that aspergillosis is on the increase, so it’s a new specialist area. If your appointment is to see one of these specialists (there aren’t many) grab it with both hands!
