For those of you having any lung surgery… Please remember to regularly move your body, and especially exercise your arm/shoulder after the surger(ies.) I had chest tubes, pleurodesis, pleurectomy, lung resection, etc. (excuse misspelling.) I felt pain and discomfort after the surgeries so I didn’t move as much as perhaps I should have. Developed a frozen shoulder which hurt a lot. If possible in your situation, I suggest starting Physical therapy, and at a minimum, doing arm/shoulder exercises from the beginning of your recovery. Find out which exercises are right for you. I only wished my surgeon added a physical therapist to my recovery team- beginning with visiting me in my hospital room during a week-long stay. My physical therapist came into the picture 2 months later when I started having a painful shoulder all of a sudden. Who needs a painful/immobile shoulder/arm on top of everything else? Now I’m feeling much better after 6 months of recovery, including 2-3x/week of physical therapy with a wonderful pt. I hope my experience helps someone to not make same mistake.

It would have helped to exercise my arm and shoulder following lung surgery in order to avoid frozen shoulder
This is an excellent post just what this forum is about and the heading makes it clear of it intentions. It worries me that my posts might get in the way useful messages like this.
Nonsense Don. People enjoy your posts (and others that are not only about medical matters) and that has been shown time and time again. It is good to have some variety in posts because we are NOT only our conditions. It is clear in heading as to what post is about and people can choose whether or not to read them.
Oh no they don’t. People are fascinating , wonderful, needy, informative and helpful. This forum caters for us all. We must have your poems. Everyone here sees your picture and we smile and chuckle in anticipation. Keep them coming.
Lots of love

Yes I agree it is an excellent post BUT so are yours (and all the other off subject posts). That is what I love about this forum. There is room for advice, requests for advice, just having a moan, life stories and humour. Brilliant 👍🙂xxxx
Very true indeed, move it or lose it .If you'd been warned do you think it'd help to exercise pre operations?
I very much hope you'll be feeling stronger soon (I know frozen shoulder can take ages). Best wishes, Peege
Hello Jauder. Good advice for those looking to have an any operation. I had a lung transplant and I was in physio therapy five days later, riding a stationary bike and walking rounds. The sooner up the better although of course I know this is not possible in every case. It was HARD and oh so painful 😒 but it paid off. Keep going, it will get better with time. Best wishes.

So true. I got moving during hospitalisations after leg injuries and operations, painful though it was, and continued exercising after discharge. The result: I can walk around now without sticks or support.
A woman much younger than me failed to do that because it hurt, and cannot walk now without crutches. She has to use a mobility scooter or wheelchair.
You would think this would be part and parcel of the information given when discussing your operation. I had a rotator cuff operation for the tendon that had snapped off after a fall and one of the things discussed was exercise and had physio for weeks after. Hope you get back to normal soon x
That is a very wise post. My Pilates teacher says movement is healing. Whichever bit of you is hurting needs to be kept mobile. (I try- operative word 'try'.)
Hi Jauder, how kind of you for sharing this. I am sure it will help so many people and it's great that you're now well on the way to recovery 🙂👍xxxx
Thank you so much for posting this information x
Very helpful post for our members undergoing surgery. Thanks x
I’m glad that I found this lovely, supportive group. Donald, I haven’t had the opportunity to see your posts yet; But everyone here seems to agree that you are the life of the party!
