Hi throatissues, sorry to hear you're having issues.
My partner's oxygen levels also drop when he's active but are normal when resting. He was hospitalised with pneumonia and sepsis earlier this year and before that he was absolutely fine, but the CT scans and x-rays they did revealed he has emphysema.
He has a cough, though, and smoked for about 35 years.
I'm absolutely not suggesting that this is what you have because I know nothing about your lifestyle or other circumstances, so please don't assume that!
Hopefully your x-ray will shed some light on things soon. Wishing you all the best.
hi yes I am having same problem, had chest infection November, had antibiotics & steroids, was very short of breath just moving from room to room and tight chest, also had bloods done all normal also chest x ray normal, another chest infection end February more antibiotics and steroids, 10 days after finishing still very short of breath phoned gp another course steroids, got appointment on Tuesday to see gp. Still very short of breath on extortion. Have copd since 2013. Hopefully things will get sorted x
Even with supplementary oxygen my levels are 89-92 resting and on exertion can drop into the low 80s ,high 70s. I have never been given an actual name other than COPD for my condition but I have always assumed it is emphysema.
I know what you mean about being breathless going from room to room. I don't have a diagnosis yet. Long wait for lung function test. I started getting breathless last summer, gp examined me and ordered chest x-ray which came back absolutely normal. It did improve for a while but just before Christmas my breathing got very bad and I ended up in hospital with fluid on the lungs, felt somewhat better when they drained it but not right. They did loads of tests incluing chest x-ray which now showed hyperinflated lungs. They said it could be possible undiagnosed COPD, but weren't sure. I won't know until the lung function test. They sent me home with 2 inhalers which have helped a lot. Three nurses I spoke to at Lung UK thought it sounded more like asthma. I got a cold and cough about a month ago and that has set me back, I seem to be improving a bit still out of breath not so much. I find it hard not knowing what I am dealing with. Sorry if this is a bit long but that is my experience without a proper diagnosis. I was negative for heart failure. As I understand it cancer and such show on an x-ray but COPD and asthma don't. I hope you get one soon and things improve for you.
My husband who has Rheumatoid Arthritis, suddenly became breathless last August bank holiday during our daily 5mile walk. X ray showed chest infection, CT scan showed lung scarring and he was diagnosed with RA related Interstitial Lung Disease. I may be wrong but I think a CT scan shows more detail than an X Ray and could give a firm diagnosis. Can I ask if you've had COVID as I'm wondering if it could be after effects or even Long Covid.
Hi I have had covid 5 months ago, New symptomes now chest x ray clear lungs sound normal, Feels like my upper back has been kicked in and now SOB when sleeping waking up hungary for air its so scary, No idea whats causing this as x ray was clear ecg was normal H/F and blood clot markers clear.
My husband's ECG and blood clot markers were also clear. So you have no follow up appointments after your tests and have just been discharged? I would push for a CT scan. Being breathless is a sign of something that's not right and you need to have a diagnosis.
My symptoms were similar to yours. I desaturated upon exertion and had severe dyspnea upon movement. It turns out I had a lung disease called Bronchiolitis Obliterans. Basically smallest airways were being "obliterated" by scarring. This was caused by Rheumatoid arthritis that had begun to attack my lungs. It is impossible to see the damage on an x-ray or CT scan. They had to go by symptoms only because at the time my lungs were too weak for a biopsy. I had a single lung transplant in 2019. After my transplant they did a biopsy of my lung and found that their conclusions had been accurate.
I am not saying you have this disease, but the best advice I can give you is to persist in your quest for answers. Try and see a lung specialist. Some lung diseases are notoriously difficult to diagnose. Best wishes to you.

P.S. please do keep moving as much as possible. Do not be afraid of being breathless. Moderate exercise helps to expand the lungs. The more deconditioned one gets the worse it is for the lungs and in turn your overall health.
