On Thursday I’m going to be getting my third chest X-ray. I had one a few years ago when I first coughed black and my other symptoms (breathless, chest pain, wheezing etc) began and then another in March this year in A&E when I had my worst chest infection to date. The first was clear and fine and the last ‘showed infection’ and I was put on antibiotics. Curious what they will see on this X-ray and if nothing how to move forward. I still have chronic symptoms and don’t want to be left again until an A&E visit or bad flare up. I have no diagnosis and I’m getting tired of being sick and having no known reason to. I feel like I’m going crazy.

Chest X-ray
ICait, am so sorry to hear of your terrible and frustration experiences. I must be so frustrating, not to say, fearful, as you are not getting answers.
Coughing up black sounds, concerning, but if you have had a chest X Ray, and other examinations, perhaps there is a reason for it, which would make it less alarming.
Having an understand GP helps, do go and see yours about this, if you have not already done so, he may be able to reassure you.
I do hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction Cait, I find that it helps to speak to someone you trust. and I hope you are able to do this.
I have had a few Bacterial Infections as well as Viral ones. Antibiotics help the first, but not the second. I also have CLL which makes things difficult at times.
Over the years I have kept going strong, with the help of this amazing Website, and the knowledge and support it provides. Please keep us informed.
All the very best Ron
Yr starting point is yr gp. Id adk for ct scan to get a diagnosis too x
If the chest X-ray doesn't show anything definite, you need to be referred for further tests. As a total non-expert it sounds to me as if you need a referral for further tests anyway.Good luck.
If a x ray doesn’t show up anything you should be referred for a ct scan of your chest. If you are still coughing up gunk you need to get your gp to test your sputum to ensure you’re on the right antibiotics. I hope you feel better soon.
Hi if there’s something going on that needs exploring the radiologist may refer you. This happened in my case. My lung x rays weren’t clearing so the radiologist referred me to the chest clinic and a scan to see what was going on. The result was bronchiectasis. Take care xx
