hi all.

I have severe asthma. Which I have had for many years. I had covid in June last year. Followed by chest infection, then I was hospitalised with RSV. I spent all of Xmas in hospital after I also got flu a few weeks after that , I have never been right since I had covid. I went to the post covid clinic for tests etc. I have now been diagnosed with copd as well. Has anyone else been diagnosed with this after covid? I’m worried about this now

Please try not to worry. Copd is liveable with. Find out all you can from reputable sources (not Google) and ask your doctor/nurse to refer you for Pulmonary Rehab. There is a lot of info on this site and respiratory nurses you can phone. Hopefully the after effects of the various illnesses you have suffered from will diminish. Try to be a little bit more active when you can. Best wishes and welcome to the forum.

I can only agree with what Alberta has already said. I was diagnosed 21 years ago and probably suffered from COPD well before that and now in my eighties I do have a bit harder time but there is plenty of help out there and on here. xx

Please try not to worry, easier said than done, I know. Copd needs to be 'managed' which you are probably used to if you have asthma. Lots of helpful guidance on here from some very wise people.

Good Lord, what a tale! You must be made of strong stuff to survive all of that . I'm sure you will manage COPD with advice from medics and tips from here.

Is you copd as result of your asthma worsening or from previous smoking? I know it can occur either way. It’s not uncommon for significant respiratory viruses (covid / flu / pneumonia) to trigger the copd that was probably underlying to some degree already. Sort of what happened with my chronic bronchitis I feel.

hi they just said it had happened after all those viruses. I have noticed I’m much more short of breath now after this. I was hoping I would recover better than I have.

Asthma is one of the COPD diseases and if you have it in severe form then you have technically been a COPD patient for some time. If your asthma is well controlled then you have nothing extra to worry about. I have mild asthma (plus emphysema and bronchiectasis) and my daughter has more severe asthma. I am sure you know part of the trick is to identify your triggers and keep clear of them! Talk to your COPD clinician (your GP is not an expert) to make sure your medication is correct and try to get onto a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Course - they are excellent.

I’ve had asthma all my life. I have always managed quite well. Although I am on a lot of treatment. The consultant said the copd bit was after having covid.

I think the consultant may be wrong. I'd want a proper diagnosis to see what is really going on and what treatment will help. Try to see a specialist in COPD.
