length of time for biopsy results

Hi, had a partial lung lobectomy and lymph node removal, was told biopsy results would be back in 7-10 days. It’s now been 41 days and I’ve heard nothing. When I contact various people I’m just being told this length of timeframe is not uncommon.. this does not sound right to me… Anyone else had to wait this long or am I being lied to ?

Can your gp contact them to find out results? Often that is easiest way by asking doctors to talk to each other. Otherwise are you in UK? If so speak to PALS at the hospital who ,am be able to help. Personally I would think it’s a good sign if not contacted yet. If anything of major concern I would have thought consultant would have made contact by now……

Thanks, already contacted PALS last week, on the plus side have just had a call to tell me I am scheduled for MDT meeting tomorrow! Regarding no news -good news those were partially my thoughts until after contacting pals which prompted a call from the lung nurse. She tried to explain certain tests regarding genetic testing that aids with treatment takes longer, I thought well if the biopsy is negative why bother? Anyway hopefully tomorrow all will be revealed.

I hope goes well and everything is explained clearly. Take a friend/relative to the appointment if possible as an extra pair of ears. We sometimes hear a word or phrase that triggers anxiety and then don't listen fully to what else is being said. 🤞

Hi! I can relate, I had a VATS wedge resection at the beginning of January, the wait for results was absolutely the worst part. I didn’t get my first results until 4 weeks after the procedure, which I was told seemed too long, but apparently it isn’t uncommon at all to have to wait so long. Your biopsies get sent around to different labs so they can get the correct tests performed. I have had some results back but still waiting for others, I’ve been told my biopsy samples are going to special labs in England for further tests and could be a while. It all depends on your case too and how complicated it is, they want to make sure they give you an accurate result to the best of their ability.

Hopefully your MDT meeting goes well and you will have answers soon! It’s dreadful waiting, the anxiety eats me up some days, but I’m sure you’re in wonderful hands and I bet there’s been lots happening behind the scenes on your case. Please reach out to family and friends and all of the wonderful people on here too if you need to. Best of luck!
