Home from Hopsital after a second flare up/ Appointment at Sheffield hospital

Hi guys

Just thought I let you know that the friday before new years eve I had a flare up & my oxygen levels went down to 57 so spend 5 days in hospital (& for the first time New years eve & NY Day

Im home now but I have accepted they will always happen regularly or there will be something that will hospitalise me over my oxygen levels because of my ILD

Ive got my appointment to go & have this procedure on 1st Feb - so dreading it - Ive asked them to organise transport & ensure theyve got plenty of oxygen tanks - Im bringing my own tanks as well

I think theyre inserting some camera inside me so ive asked to be sedated & numbed up.ive told them Im epileptic but Ill remind them as well

Im absolutely DREADING it -so scared -never had that sort of thing done before

You wouldnt think the NHS was broken would you if my specialist managed to get me this appointment - I was rather hoping that given the fact they are in crisis they would arrange it to mid month-a bit more of a sensible time to have it

Ive been put on another set of antibiotics which Ive got to take for a week them appointment at the ACU at north manchester on9th

Ive got tons of appointments with the NHS -not moaning or sounding ungrateful -just saying & making an observation which considering theyre in crisis theyve managed to do

Sounds like a bronchoscopy? I'd not worry.they do sedate you so u don't remember it.the tube/camera goes up nose,down throat + into lungs.its uncomfortable,not painful.they must think its necessary,as was mine,recently.they can get a gd view,take samples,wash out the lungs and its also gd for diagnostic purposes.x

So glad you've been able to get your appointments, depite all the talk of NHS in crisis. I think they do pull out all the stops whenever they are able.

I hope all goes well for your procedure and also hope you're feeling better now than when you had to go to hospital.

my NHS hospital has been amazing too, regular appointments since the summer , two procedures ….one postponed for the Queens funeral .

No fuss , all calm, masks provided ….another appointment soon . Very busy but orderly .

But I do see the queues of ambulances outside A and E …..no leeway in the system it seems.

If it is a bronchospy with lung wash you will be sedated . I was given throat numbing stuff too . I had a lung wash . I was so well for two years after that! They can also analyse any bugs they catch! I didn't feel a thing. Good luck.

If this is a bronchoscopy you are having, I hope I can reassure you a tiny bit. I was absolutely dreading it- I didn't see how they could possibly pass a tube up my nose and, if they managed it, I was sure I'd be left with a horrible sore nose and throat. It didn't help when I saw that it was not my friendly consultant but a strange young man who was preparing to do the op. However the strange young man was very reassuring, sedated me quickly and efficiently, and the next thing I knew I was sitting in the day room with no aches at all. My nose and throat were fine. Looking at a diagram on the wall I could see why they choose to go via the nose. The samples they took enabled the consultant to see just what kind of nasty was lurking in my lungs and give me the appropriate antibiotic. I hope your procedure is as painless and as fruitful. You are bound to be scared Horseygirl we all go through this but am sure from people who have had this you wont feel a thing. I am so pleased for you that you haven't had to wait long to get this done and sounds like your consultant may have put you to the top of his list, along with the other appointments. I try not to think about procedures until I am sat in the chair, otherwise I get myself in a state, this has worked very well for myself over the years. Sending hugs x

You are bound to be apprehensive, normal evolutionary response to something unknown being stuck in/up/down our bodies I should think. Take heart from others who've had it and I find the promise of a treat after works wonders - tea and cake in a nice tea shop/cafe is my favourite! 🍰😂

Over the years I had various cameras down my nose or down my throat. Honestly they really aren’t too bad. If via nose I have something sprayed in nose first to numb things. If via throat I have had mild sedation and known nothing about it.

Don’t understand why you think appointment would be better mid of month than beginning of month. Just concentrate on fact it will soon be over!!

This probably doesn't ease your mind but at least you'll know more and when we fear something like this, we make it out in our minds to be much worse than it is! And you are so young, maybe after this you will much improve!
