DATE FOR SHEFFIELD HOSPITAL

Well Ive finally got my hospital appointment for the treatment in Sheffield which is 1st Feb/ An ambulance is picking me up at 8am so Ive got to get up mega early as the appointment is at 10am

They want to look at my heart because I also have Pulmonary Hypertension as well & in a letter I received about the details it was mentioned that one of the ventiricles in my heart was enlarged (I think)

So I think theyre going to put a camera in my private parts (I think) & I have asked that I be sedated & when they do tests before hand & take blood Im going to take my emla cream as I ahve severe needle phobia & wont have nay blood tests without being numb first & some hospitals dont supply it so good job Ive got it on my repeat prescription

I'm absolutely dreading it not to mention terrified -Im going as a day patient & I think an ambulance is taking me home around 6pm is or when Ive recovered/I'll have to tell the relevant people that I have epilepsy just so they are aware - they better do anyway because my mum isnt too ahppy about her driving me home because of the length of time my oxygen tank will last

Ive asked the hospital they will need more than one oxygen tank as one wont be enough , Im also going to take a couple of my own tank in case of an emergency in case they run out in the ambulance which would be dangerous as my oxygen levels would drop because my oxygen levels are only 88-92% instead of the 100 % in a healthy set of lungs - which is waht I was born with (with 100% oxygen in my lungs that is)

Hello Horseygirl

I may be wrong but if they are going to look at your heart and you have pulmonary hypertension then I think you may be due to have a right heart catheterisation? This is entirely painless. They insert a tube in your neck and it then goes down to your heart. They read the pressures and take the tube out. All done and dusted in about 15 minutes. I assume you are going to the pulmonary vascular disease unit? You will be very well looked after. All the best

What a battery of tests they are doing all at once. No wonder you're not happy. I've had invasions of my privates- undignified, but once you're sedated you don't know a thing about it. Hope that aspect of it is as painless for you. Of course the complicating factor is the oxygen. You are wise to take some of your own, just in case they can't supply enough. And what an early hour they want you in. OMG, you'll have to be up well before the crack of dawn. I hope you can keep reasonably calm beforehand- easier said than done. A lot of people on this forum will be crossing their fingers for you on February the first. xxx

pleased to hear you have got you appointment. Will be thinking of you on 1st Feb. I had a heart check a few years ago, the camera went up through the groin, it was painless. They numbed the area and I never had any pain at all.

Good luck

Hazel

Not a bad hospital to be in. Try not to worry too much about oxygen tanks, I`m sure they have plenty at the hospital. When I had an agiogram done on my heart, they used a vein in my wrist to insert canula. I was more than happy to see the blood flow around the heart and show that the arteries were not too bad. Wish you well, Chris.

If you are in a big ambulance it will have a big tank of oxygen. If you are in an ambulance car, they carry several canisters. 8am isn’t that early a pick up - I’ve had to be ready for 7am for 9am appointments. When they tried to do a right heart catheter procedure on me, they went through my right elbow. They suggested the neck, but decided I’d had enough having been on the theatre table for 2 hours.

I’m sure it will go well and that you are pleased to be getting such good care from the NHS which is in crisis currently.
