I have severe COPD, has anyone on here tried Reiki healing or Heart Chakra. There is a place near me that advertising healing for anyone who has Respiratory conditions. Before I part with my money am wondering if anyone has tried this & if so did it help. I think I know the answer but thought there's no harm in asking. Thank you for listening.

I don’t have a diagnosed respiratory condition, but I do have a variety of other complex medical issues. I periodically have hands-on reiki, and I find well-being benefit from it, but in my own case (and perhaps many cases) I suspect it’s from the physical contact more than anything else. To trigger the release of oxytocin and positive endorphins that come from touch, any contact has to last at least 7 seconds, and not many people hug soon to be middle-aged blokes that way: I use reiki when the touch deficit becomes too much.

I have read up on it, and best I understand it, even if genuinely does something, it’s not going to do anyone any harm: although I’m very much a sceptic with this kind of thing, I’m also open-minded, and of the belief that if it subjectively helps then it shouldn’t be dismissed. Magnetic bracelets have almost no basis in science, I’ve read up on them at length, but I definitely feel in less pain when I’m wearing one, and reiki does benefit me, even if it’s not in any medical capacity 🤷‍♂️

I haven’t tried reiki but I so agree with Charlie that the benefit probably lies in the physical contact from a caring human being. I generally put my faith in science rather than alternative remedies, but no harm to suck it and see. No doubt there are charlatans in these fields so you need to find a genuine, empathetic practitioner. Personally I find a good massage with warm oils and some wave music sets me up. It’s a treat though as I can’t afford it very often.

Since the pandemic I’ve avoided close embraces with my friends - the natural hugs & kisses I used to take for granted - it’s very sad

I have qualified in Reiki. Mostly as an adjunct to Tai Chi and Chi Gong which I have been practicing for many years. My view on alternatives is to be aware of claims that wish to replace, or substitute it for, let me call it Western medicine.

As an additive to normal treatments and drug regimes, I believe it can do a lot of good. But am very suspicious of claims "throw away your crutches and pills by doing or taking this"!

Best wishes.

The person I've approached hasn't said they can cure my COPD, I just wanted to know if I'd benefit from the healing side of Reiki, but thanks for your feedback.

reiki and chakras I would recommend to be honest. I have it every three months and it helps me breath, relax and take time out . I always feel as if my batteries have been recharged. Just make sure you drink plenty of water afterwards

There is probably lots of anecdotal evidence to suggest this is beneficial but very little empirical evidence. However, if you trust the practitioner it should not be harmful. Many people use 'non chemical' means, along side their usual meds, to improve their well being. I have a yoga teacher whose very presence lifts my mood. 🌟

Hi, if you are looking for something to relax you, it might help, but don' t go into it expecting any kind of ' cure' or improvement in symptoms. Practitioners can promise a lot...I was a qualified Reiki Master and have tried many complementary therapies over the years.
