Hi everyone, hope all are as well as can be expected especially since we have had some sunshine today at last! :-) I have booked a reiki session at the end of April. I have emphysema and mainly out of curiosity I thought I would see if the healer's energy has any effect on me. Has anyone else had a reiki session and if you have did you feel you got any benefit from it? Best wishes xx

EDIT: This has been thoroughly debated and has aroused some impassioned responses. Thank you all for your contributions. The post is now 'locked' to further replies.

I like Reiki 😊makes me feel all warm and relaxed, and it is not invasive. I usually feel tired the next day and that’s because I have let down my controls I think and it is a good thing to switch off for a little while at least. But everybody is different. It will help with your breathing as your lung tightness relaxes. Well it helped me.

There is a self-reiki on youtube that I use and other similar wellbeing exercises that you can use if you enjoyed the experience.

Enjoy🌷

Hi, I have had 2 reiki sessions. I have found them very relaxing, and they utilise pressure points on the body for therapeutic effect. Go for it!!

Relax and enjoy the energy and the body will benefit but remember it does not replace any other on going medication and or Doctor consults.

I find it amazing : go and enjoy it, everyone’s experience is different , but usually very good ,and at the very least really relaxing. it’s a complimentary therapy, so as hallentine says it doesn’t replace your medical treatment, but is s great add on xxxx

I have often thought about it but never seem to get around to it. My Son had it and said it relaxed him.

If it makes you feel better fine, but please don't mislead people to think that it has any scientific basis. Its about as useful as treating my ILD with homeopathy.

Homeopathy does have a part to play in the world of medicine and the evidence of that was seen when several homeopathic hospitals in the UK were built under the NHS umbrella. A homeopathy doctor was invited to be part of my GP 's surgery and attends once or twice a week for those patients who prefer to go down a more natural route. Conventional medicine doesnt always do the job with or without side effects. We must also remember that homeopathic remedies were around long before conventional medication and procedures were invented and that was a skill that was taught and handed down over the centuries, and many people being burned at the stake because of having that knowledge!

I have great faith in Reiki energy. It is always relaxing and the energy can be felt with heat throughout the body. I have had great pain relief, also.

I did a First Degree course for Reiki many years ago - but my Reiki Master moved to Portugal and I lost touch with him. (Interesting use of touch in that sentence!)

I do not believe it would bring a change for everyone but you do receive individual care.

Absolutely agree with you. I know very little about Reiki other than my brother-in-law had terminal cancer and had some Reiki sessions which gave him great relief and a sense of calmness. He did not have the sessions for a miracle cure as he knew that was impossible but it gave him great comfort.

As far as homeopathy is concerned, I have great faith in this and as you have said, don't knock it just because you don't agree with it. I have seen this work on separate occasions, one being my son with eczema and one being my best friend who was treated for glandular fever by orthodox doctors in an orthodox hospital. Their treatment was spectacularly unsuccessful so much so she ended up in a mental hospital! Her much older sister did the research and came across homeopathy. She persuaded doctors to allow her sister to be examined and treated at the Bristol Homeopathy Hospital where she was a patient for many weeks but ultimately she recovered to go on to live a perfectly normal life. You have to be prepared to put the time and patience into this form of medicine, but it does work

My oh my, what a cynic you are! And yes..... I have seen the evidence if you would care to read my reply to bluepettals2 comments!

Not a cynic, just a realist. And I'm afraid the comments you mention are not evidence. In your own words you have 'faith', which is far from scientific proof. Maybe I'm against it after finding one in my 90 year old mother's house extracting money from her for his rubbish after recommending that she stops taking the medicine recommend by her GP. He literally got my boot up his backside when I put him out on the street and has never been back. On a site like this any theories like this are dangerous when there are very sick people reading it. I could post hundreds of articles refuting your comments, but I'll just post one. I don't normally post on this forum, but people should be warned. theguardian.com/commentisfr...

Yes, I have faith, in that I believe homeopathy has a therapeutic place in healing people alongside conventional medicine, or when conventional medicine has failed. I have seen the evidence with my own eyes - my son when the awful rashes and soreness healed from his little body so that he could have a normal childhood like paddling in the sea and sitting in the sand without crying because of the stinging it caused, and yes when my friend walked out of hospital to resume a normal life when hitherto she was left to live and develop into what would have been a vegative state in a mental hospital because conventional medicine could do no more for her. I didn't imagine this "evidence" and I am not so narrow-minded as to think there is only one answer to a problem.

I understand that you have had a nasty and perfectly unacceptable experience which involved your mother but that doesn't mean that the whole homeopathy ethos is one of quackery as you have likened it to. That is totally unfair to those that work in that field. Homeopathy, Reiki, Kinesiology, Acupuncture, Reflexology etc. etc. are all there for anyone to try when the proverbial hits the fan, it gives people hope!

I would like to add finally that at no point in any of my comments did I advocate stopping conventional medication in favour of other approaches to healing and would never ever do so!

If you have any scientific evidence that homeopathy works, please show us! Edited by moderator.
