I saw the asthma nurse at my surgery today...apparently I wasn’t supposed to have been seen in person but they’d confused the process and booked me in.
Anyhow, I saw her cos my asthma isn’t great at the moment and I’m already on highest doses of my meds& tablets to go with. What was helpful was that she haS re-referred me back to Thoracic's because during lockdown, hospital helpfully wrote me out of clinic because of Covid backlog. 😠
But today my asthma nurse was like ‘ I’ll refer you back! ‘ Don’t know why they discharged you in first place.
It is annoying isn’t it, but at least she’s referred me back& has stepped up my meds to what consultant had me on before stepping it down....with GP’s permission.
So now I’m back to :
Fostair 200/6 : 6 puffs a day
Spireva x 2
Alvesco
Montelukast
Phyllocontin , plus ventilin as and when needed! All to be able to breathe!

Thank you! I have been struggling to get a proper breath for a while and managed to see the nurse so that was helpful. I was glad I didn’t end up on another short dose of steroids but rather a longer term solution. And thankful she’s referred me back to hospital because I’m at the point where the surgery isn’t allowed to add on any more medication to step up.
Well it’s a good job she has referred you back I don’t know why we get pushed from pillar to post. They change our meds and we suffer, if things are working why change it. Glad you got sorted. 😊
Thank you Patsy! I know! We end up all over the place with meds being changed left, right and centre!
And just to be able to breathe!! It really struck me when I wrote that! That all of those meds are simply to be able to breathe! And people say ‘ oh it’s just asthma!’
I remember my friend saying when I was coming out of hospital after 11 days ‘ I only thought you had an asthma attack.’ Lol 😂
It sounds like your nurse is pretty on the ball - I wouldn't hesitate to contact her if you’re still struggling with breathing. It really doesn’t have to be this difficult, but it is great to have a proactive person on your side who makes sure you get the appointments and treatment you need.
Thank you beech! Yes she’s good! She’s also had to call the ambulance for me twice from the surgery so knows how bad I get quickly. But it’s good to have a nurse on the ball!
