Hosp appointment .

I have routine hosp appointment to see respiratory consultant next Fri? Dont want to go. But if I cancel then I will have to be referred by GP again? He is always rushed too. Too many patients.

I was hoping it would be cancelled as usual .

I can understand your concerns but I would think the covid areas and routine out patients will be quite separate. It could well be the safest time to go atm.

If you are really concerned, maybe you could ring his secretary and ask if it is possible to have a telephone appointment. This might not be possible of course, especially if you need to have some tests done at the same time.

I imagine once you are in the hospital everything will be organised and safe.

My worry would be getting there. I usually get a taxi and I just wouldn’t be willing to do that just yet.

Just had a phone call from respertory clinic ours said staying closed but doing co sultation on phone. Said take about 20 minutes

I have an appointment in 2 weeks with the consultant.

Ihave had 2 phone consultations ,but they want to see me,I also have to do spirometry.they are not seeing many patients. Believe the clinics are very quiet at present.

Hi Jaybird if the appointment is still going ahead it should be safe as they wouldn’t have you go if not. My appointment with the Hospital for 8th June was cancelled I have no idea when I will go. They all wear PPE when you go in as well, so my husband said when he went.

Hi jaybird, My Consultant sent me a Letter saying she would Phone me at the Appointed Time, which she did, so over the Phone consultations from now on it seems. Then My GP, also phones me to keep a check on me. Best of Luck. XXX C.

Clinical places are the safest places you can go to as social distancing will be set up for you and there will be every precaution possible there so you should be fine.

We’ve done ‘clinic’ twice during shielding, as well as 10 days on the ward, and I would say that it’s been very well thought through and organised in our case. All staff were aproned, gloved, and masked. Everyone is abiding by strict social distancing. Everyone is pretty much bathing in hand sanitiser, and you can actually see some of the staff’s hands are chafed and chapped from washing them every other second before liberally applying gel again. They may be willing to do the appointment over the phone (or video), but if they’re not, then as long as everyone is taking the correct precautions, I honestly don’t think it can get much safer without C19 completely doing one.

Yes it’s difficult to decide what to do. I’ve finally allowed the respiratory nurse to come and see my husband tomorrow. She’s going to be wearing mask, gloves and apron and has been tested for covid . I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing but on balance I’ve decided to go ahead. As with all these things it’s pros and cons. If you feel you really need to be seen you could risk it as I’m sure they’ll have procedures in place. If it isn’t urgent maybe see if you can postpone it or talk on the phone.

Could you phone the consultants secretary just to say your a little worried re going? Perhaps she could make you another appointment there and then for a little later on in the year seeing though it’s a routine appointment ? I’m sure you won’t be the only one phoning up .

Mine was changed to a telephone appointment at quite short notice. It was quite a long call and much appreciated. As a result I am being booked in for a CT scan which will hopefully happen in September and a face to face appointment with the consultant following that. I have found the consultant's secretary to be brilliant and so would agree with others for you to phone them and find out what the situation is likely to be if you DO have to go for the appointment. I'm sure they will be as helpful as they can.

I have to go for a neck x-ray next week. I was phoned about it and asked to make the appointment with them. They offered me a couple of dates. I explained I am shielding so I was advised to go for the evening appointment as that was likely to be much quieter. I share your apprehension about going to the hospital but I know they have been handing out masks at the front door and spraying people's hands with sanitiser. I think they are doing their very best to minimise the risks.

thanks for info . all useful. I phoned and spoke to med secretary who was working from home too. so he will phone me and I might have to go in but not necessarily. i think he tries to do too much always too busy and one step ahead as you get escorted out of door still half dressed !

I was informed yesterday that my appointment in OCTOBER with lung consultant will be a phone consult, rather than face-to-face - start of things to come?

We’ve had a survey regarding clinic going forward, basically saying that they’re looking to see how much we would be happy to permanently continue doing remotely.

Thank you - interesting. Personally I think face-to-face is more beneficial, but knew 'after' the coronavirus they'd carry on doing this, as it suits them.

I went recently and found it safe. Everyone is wearing masks. I had an appointment in the respiratory ward and they asked me to use hand sanitiser before I went in. The waiting room only had 4 chairs and all 2 metres apart. Hope this helps

I phoned up and was told they were all telephone appointments now and he would call me mon am . I should have had a letter apparently, but didn't

I spokeome to his secretary and she was working from home so I guess the hospital is deserted.

the resp department is down the length of the hospital past all other depts, and round the corner and along to the resp dept adjoining the A&E.. the small car park nearest there is always full so have to go back to the others. Or the overflow but couldn't find that last time I was there and it took an hour to park. not patient friendly at all
